I didn't really know where to post this but I really cannot decide which university to go to out of the ones I got accepted to of course. I'm still waiting on UC Berkeley which comes out tomorrow and Boston University. If I get accepted to Berkeley, I'm for sure going there, but as of right now these are the stats and I cannot decide!! Please help?
UC San Diego
UC Davis
UC Santa Cruz
Cal Poly SLO
San Francisco State University

I'm a very liberal, atheist but I really want to be part of a diverse student body. I got accepted to all of these schools for biology and I want to be a doctor eventually.

Well I’ve heard ucsd is boring unless you’re 21. And davis seems sort of in the middle of nowhere and I’m a city girl. The reason I like davis is its proximity to san francisco.

go and visit the schools, you’ll get a much better idea of what the schools are like, and won’t be persuaded by random people on the internet who have their biases towards certain schools. It really depends on your gut feeling and the school you know you’ll be happy at for 4 years

Some people might bring up the point that La Jolla is populated mainly by retirees, but it’s a gorgeous place to be, and if you’re a fan of nature, you might not mind that UCSD doesn’t have the social life of UCSB. Though to be honest, when people say “social life sucks,” I always get confused. My idea of a good time is taking hikes and hanging out in the commons, whereas some people think “a good social life” means drinking and partying. It’s all relative, I suppose.

I’ll second the opinions of mom2collegekids and neonseri-- UCSD and Davis are great for the sciences. Though to be fair, I know absolutely nothing about Cal Poly Slo, and if you like the location and feel of Santa Cruz, that’s a perfectly legitimate reason to choose Santa Cruz over the other schools. The UCs are pretty different in their campus cultures, and I would definitely visit to try and see where you’d be happiest at.

I wouldn’t attend SF State for the world. The campus is quite nice, but there are too many commuter students for you to really get the full college experience. Not to mention, I’ve heard horror stories of people not getting the classes they need to graduate, and consequently, sticking it out for as much as 6 years.

I mean I’m definitely dedicated to my studies but I’m also interested in going to parties. I’m really leaning toward uc davis if I don’t get into berkeley. Does anyone know what the overall attitude is there? Like I’m not outdoorsy at all.

Oh and I really don’t have the resources or a mode of transportation to visit any of the colleges except ucsd because I live in southern california it’s kind of hard to make a decision this way.

Colleges sometimes visit your city (if you live in one), though they’re definitely biased and probably don’t give you a clear idea of what living at the college is like. Try checking out reviews online too. epinions is great, though you have to take everything with a grain of salt, of course.
