Can't decide which school to accept

I’ve narrowed down my schools to Rose-Hulman and MSOE (Milwaukee School of Engineering). However, I can’t make a decision, and would appreciate feedback or advice. I’ve jotted some of my thoughts below, feel free to correct me or add to the list. Likewise, give light to anything specific. If you’d like to share your experiences about campus life, food, classes, etc. Feel free to share whatever.

My thoughts:

ROSE-HULMAN

POSITIVES:

  • From what I’ve heard has a great career service center that helps students land internships and jobs nationwide. Likewise, they care a lot about the students needs.
  • Their need student union has pretty good food, newly renovated.
  • A.C. in the dorms/pretty clean bathrooms.
  • Have entrepreneurial organizations (such as ESCALATE) for those who are business minded in engineering.
  • Very supportive community of students and teachers.

NEGATIVES:

  • Location is not the best, not much to do in Terre Haute

MSOE

POSITIVES:

  • Good Software Engineering program (From what I’ve heard, Rose-Hulman bases their program off of MSOE).
  • Urban Location, more options of things to do off campus
  • Brand New Computer Science Building coming in 2019 potentially putting MSOE at the forefront of AI. Building will house a supercomputer.

NEGATIVES:

  • Dorms aren’t the nicest, except for Grohmann Tower which is exclusively for honor program students, juniors, and seniors.
  • Some of their buildings seem a little dated. For example, the Campus Center and Library. However, the classrooms didn’t seem too bad.
  • Food options - after visiting for student accepted day, I didn’t hear the best things about their food options and quality.
  • From what I’ve seen, it doesn’t seem like the school has as an elaborate entrepreneurial club/organization in comparison to Rose-Hulman.

It sounds like you’re leaning oward Rose Hulman.
Check out engineering abroad options and if they participate in some sort of domestic exchange o that you’d be able to take classes at another tech school in the US or abroad. It’d alleviate the issue with Terre Haute.

RH has a great reputation. You will be busy at school, and have friends there to hang out with. If the costs are workable I’d pick RH.

Isn’t isu in terre haute. There may be options for fun and music art and plays at isu

My main concern is if I should choose MSOE because of their new CS building, is it a massive asset to the CS learning experience? It’ll house a super computer and MSOE will focus on AI more with that new addition. However, Rose Holman is ranked very well, should I choose a new CS building at MSOE over Rose Hulman?

Do you think you get to play with the new computer as an undergrad Maybe as a senior. I wouldn’t go for a new building. You need the best place to learn all the building blocks. Like going as a biology major to a school because of the new super microscope. You need to know how use it more than the need to use it.

Good point, appreciate the feedback! Do you know if Rose Hulman is more well known in the job placement market for engineers?

Sorry I don’t. But I do know that I have seen it discussed here as a solid option. And usually in context of deciding between RH and other good well known schools

RH has an excellent reputation for engineers. For undergraduate programs that don’t have an associated graduate school, here are rankings:

Are costs similar?

With scholarships, for me the costs are similar. Does anyone know if the software engineering program at Rose-Hulman is ranked highly?
