Can't do internships/school activities.

How do you handle not being able to do anything when only do work and school. I cannot find the time to join the paper or go to meetings because I have to work. I don't have a choice at all. Has anyone had an issue with this?

I assumed at first you are a HS kid, but you are in college? It doesn’t matter that much then. I think it is more important to have some down time when you can relax and hang out with friends…

With regards to clubs, what I used to do (since I worked nights and pretty much all org meetings are in the evening) was email clubs I was interested in, let them know that I couldn’t attend their meeting because of work, and then ask to be on the mailing list. Many clubs at my school would email out updates after meetings and weekly blurbs about different opportunities. It wouldn’t necessarily work for the paper, but it’s a way to keep in touch with what’s going on so when you are able to do something, you know about it.

With everything else, it’s just about making time for what’s important to you, and making grown up decisions about what you have to do. Could you find a paying internship in lieu of your job? Could you work an internship or another job in addition that what you’re doing now? There were some quarters where I was working 40+ hours a week across different jobs/internships in addition to being a full time student just because they were really good oppprtunities. Sometimes you have to make time, and sometimes there just aren’t enough hours in a day. Perhaps, there’s a semester where you could cut back on your classes, so you have time for other things. Would you have more time to do something over the summer?

I think it also depends on what you want to do and why you want to do it. If it’s just out of interest, there might be other less structured or time intensive ways to be involved. If it’s out of career or grad school interest, then perhaps you can scrounge up a way to make time for it. Always remember that there are very few things that are worth sacrificing your sanity for.
