I listened to what a lot of you said on here and started running 2 miles per day and walking 2 miles per day, while also eating only 2 meals. I am yet to lose a pound and it is almost three weeks! Should I keep going, or do I need to tweak the system a little bit. The meals I eat are breakfast and dinner, with usually some juice for lunch. I have been avoiding fast food and soda all together.

you shouldn't be cutting out meals, its actually more healthy to eat a lot of really small meals rather than 3 or 2 big ones.

Yeah, you should be eating six smaller meals instead of two larger ones. Try the Abs Diet. It really works. I lost about 30 lbs on the diet and then my metabolism improved and lost another 20 lbs during the following months. Go to http://www.absdiet.com/uof/absdiet/.

from what i've experienced, the best way to lose weight, is to eat smaller healthier portions while also exercising 1 hour per day. Don't give in to "fad diets" (atkins, south beach, etc) because the minute you stop the diet you gain the weight back quickly when you reintroduce whatever substance you took away from your diet. All you need to do is eat 3 healthy balanced meals (with small portions) and exercise.

Yeah I agree that fad diets aren't health or effective, but the Abs Diet isn't really a fad diet. Its more of a workout plan and meal scheduling calendar (basically, you eat six smaller meals a day, and do aerobic and weight excercises). I had really good results and since last August I didn't put the weight I lost back on (in fact my weight kept dropping even after the diet since my metabolism had improved).

alukaszewicz, can you tell me the specifics mentioned on abs diets. maybe some secrets?

Well, its pretty simple actually. There are two components: the meals and the excercise.

For the meals, they list about 12 Power Foods, which you should eat lots of as they help cut fat (such as whey power, berries, green vegetables, etc). There are many recipes provided, but you can pretty much eat anything as long as its not too high in fat, not too high in calories and has at least one or two of the power foods (ie. you can eat a steak with a side salad and baked potato but a hamburger with fries and gravy is out of the question).

With training, you alternate your days: every other day is weights (there is a series of excercises to follow such as crunches, arm presses, etc). Other days you either run, walk, ride a bike or something cardio.

One day off you can eat anything you want ( be sure to take advantage of this). Something like a Big Mac, or an ice cream sunday is fine and encouraged. And you keep it up for six weeks without cheating and it works. For me, it was a really good diet. Many other diets I went on in the past weren't effective. This helps improve eating habbits and metabolism. Mainly, it helped me cut the junk food from my food habbits (ie. no chips, switched to diet coke, etc). Try it and you will be happy!

Running or jogging won't help you lose weight. It increases your heart rate, but to lose weight, walking helps. My advice to you is to go to your school's or a local weight room and excercise regularly, 3 times a week, 30-45min each time. If you're not drastically overweight, engage in sports such as soccer, or basketball. I don't have much to say as I've always been fit myself, but you should start early as the problems will get really bad gradually into adulthood. I don't know if you've watched "Super size me", but it might scare you enough to give you a will power boost. Good luck!

p.s. Eating fewer large meals per day is not healthy. Eating say 4 or even 5 smaller meals a day is much healthier.A big breakfast is better than a big supper, and you shouldn't eat anything past 6 or 7 pm. All those calories and carbohydrate are going to be processed into fat, because your body has no need to harness all that energy.

alukascewiz(sp?), wow, another canadian on cc???

Running and jogging definitely help you lose weight.

umm no, it increases heart rate, and builds up muscle mass in the legs, but it is NOT, i repeat NOT as efficient as walking when it comes to weight loss.

running will not necessarily help you lose weight, but it WILL help you lose FAT. However, it takes several weeks before your body will learn to start to break down fat as opposed to just shutting down. It usually take 3-5 weeks for this transition to happen, at which point you will start to burn fat faster than before. I would say def keep running, you should start to see the results soon, but like seth said, you probly won't see it on the scale, you'll have to look in the mirror at your body shape.

It still helps to lose weight, because it increases your metabolism. And, as you builkd muscle, you also burn fat.

screw that, how do i gain weight? i just cant no matter what i try!

key word weight... muscle weighs more than fat, so as u build muscle u gain weight.... and u may be losing fat at the same time.... u will likely get thinner, but not necessarily lose weight.

muscle weighs more than fat so you won't lose weight but it will make a big difference in terms of body shape and looking leaner

screw that, how do i gain weight? i just cant no matter what i try!

What are you implying "dad"? This thread is about weight loss, not weight gain. if you have problems with anorexia or bulimia, start another thread and people will be happy to give you advice.

The only way to possibly lose weight is to consume less calories than you burn. The amount of calories burned varies per person but in general...

the more you weigh the more you burn

the younger you are the more you burn

males burn more than females

the more active you are the more you burn

good luck.

i have the exact opposite problem...cant gain pounds! lol...i just never seem to put on weight and remain thin, lean...

well, ppl like you if you continue to eat a lot, eventually gain the weight later on... i know a lot of ppl like you, but they have parents who are kinda fat, and they were once very thin as well.

collegekid is right, just wait until your late 20's when your metabolism declines...
