Can't figure out if I should do QuestBridge....

So I just found out about QuestBridge today and have been going back and forth about using it.

My family definitely qualifies ($20000) and my stats are all really good (4.0, 2300) but I feel like I haven't really been hampered by my family's income level and I haven't worked to support my family. Will this just make it look like I'm using QuestBridge to gain an admissions advantage? I definitely need financial aid, but I think I would get it anyway from the schools I am looking at (Stanford, Yale, Princeton). Arggg what to do? Thanks all

Try it. You don’t have to have suffered from your family’s income level to apply.

You should start on it soon though; the application is due September 30th

Below is the FAQ that will answer many of your future questions.
[National College Match Program: FAQ](http://www.questbridge.org/students/faqs.html)

^Thanks, that helps a lot. Another question about it though… if I become a finalist and select certain schools to have my application forwarded to, will that be my “admission.” Will the college actually send me a letter of acceptance / denial and that’s it for that school? It also says I may have to use the CommonApp, but can my essays overlap a bit? Or between the QB essays and supplements (thinking of Stanford’s intellectual vitality)? Thanks again!

Again, your questions can be answered by referring to the FAQ; I posted the link above.

Once you are a finalist, that does not mean that you have been accepted yet.

imo, you should leave questbridge for people who have seriously suffered. You could be taking the spot of somebody who, like me, went hungry a lot of nights, woke up to an empty tree christmas morning, and/or wore the same pair of jeans to school every day. It wouldn’t give you a significant enough boost to even matter; ethically, you should leave it to people who need it to pay their application fees.

Sorry goldturtle, what you said is just plain wrong. I am sorry for you having a difficult childhood, but the OP CLEARLY qualifies for QB. You did read that he/she has a family income of $20,000? With stats that the OP has and family income, the OP is EXACTLY the target student for Questbridge, high achieving and low income. My D was a QB match a few years ago, yet she never “suffered” growing up. I have said many times on these threads that one need not have a hard luck sob story to be a QB candidate. Another thing, there are no “spots” to be taken. QB match students are chosen even before ED applicants. Nobody is taking the last spots in a class. They either choose you or they defer you to their RD pile.

Perhaps you read the OP’s income as $200,000?

Goldturtle proved that gold isn’t always better than silver.
