Can't Get into cornell... how about HUMANECO?

can I get in…to human ecology? I was plannign on applying to polii sci, only to find out that cornell didn't have one, but i AM interested in policy and management in human ecology.

The below stuff is a coy adn paste out of the regular chances thread, so maybe while you’re at it you could evaluate my [nonexistent] chances at the other colleges.

Well right now I have this lingering feeling that I’m only getting into merced [confirmed] and riverside
So here is where I applied to

All of the UCs [Berkeley, LA, SD, davis, merced, SB, SC, riverside, Irvine]
UChicago [Early Action]
Northwestern [debate might help]
USC [scholarship deadline, will this make it harder for me to get in?]
Georgetown [foreign service…so not happening]
Cornell [Human ecology, I’m into public policy]
CMU [Humanities and social sciences]

Interested in: Policy and management, International Relations, Political Science

But here it is. The one that will probably get me rejection letters: gpa: uw: 3.28ish. weighted: 3.7ish
-have had extremely demanding course load [one of the most demanding in fact]
Rank not assigned [as far as I know]
Go to one of best high schools in California, and in top 50 for the united states

you wouldnt happen to go to MV would you? anyhoo. i think youre alright. the gpa shouldnt affect you THAT much if they know you had a stiff courseload. you have excellent ec's and awards. basically just show a lot of passion for public policy and cornell in your essays and you should be fine.

Are you implying that HumEc is easier to get into than other schools/ colleges at cornell?... with that sort of attitude, you deserve to be rejected...

No...I don't, that's what i have been told. And that's not my attitude.
actually i posted this somewhere else, but i'm applying to human ecology but i don't want to look like i'm doing it as a cheap shot thing because i really want to go there, no other dept interests me as much in Cornell because this is the only one with policy.

So i was wondering whether i have shown a commitment and background to anything that relates to public policy, because i really don't want to look like I’m applying there to get in. Anyways, i figure that the other colleges with higher admission rates aren’t easier, rather the pool is just self selective

Oh…and I think the rhetoric of my post was a little screwy now when I look at it, usually privates with colleges with an arts and science emphasis refer to them selves as [insert school name here] college. For example, Georgetown college.

So I understand that cornell has a different name for that college, but uh…sorry for flaming you? Haha. Don’t worry, with a GPA like mine I don’t think any school is easy/er to get into…

PAM is the most competitive major at Human Eco, so don't apply the easiness factor of Human Eco here.

CAS has a government major which for all intents and purposes IS political science.

PAM = hardest major in Humec? Not Biology & Society? Or even Human Bio?

the government major at CAS is quite a bit different from PAM at HumEc... the PAM major is very adaptable between the fields of economics, politics, and sociology...

how about public policy in industrial and labour relations?

its another good option... as is city and regional planning at AAP... but both of those are specific (to labor and urban issues, respectively)... PAM, in my mind, is general enough to work for a variety of post- cornell options...

that's very true, i thought my college plans were so set until i tried to choose a major in Cornell haha

i know exactly what you mean highereducation haha...
