I'm having trouble deciding which college I should go to. I'm stuck between Mizzou and Georgia Southern. I love both of these schools, but i'm just having trouble making a decision. I was offered a full scholarship to Mizzou, but i'm not sure if I should take it because it's 12 hours away from home and no one in my family is supportive of me going there. I could go to Georgia Southern which is only a hour away from home, but even though it's in-state i'd still have to take out loans and i'm not trying to have any loans before I get to medical school. I feel as though I would be more comfortable at Georgia Southern, but Mizzou would take me out of my comfort zone and I think I may need that. I know this post is kind of all over the place, but can anyone try to help me make a final decision. I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Have you toured both schools?

For pre-med students, avoiding debt is usually the best way to go. I think it’s good to be pulled out of one’s comfort zone a bit, and there’s no better time to do that than college. Sit down and talk to your parents about the pros and cons of each school, and share your perspective. A good conversation can do wonders.

^^ I agree: for a premed student, a full ride is a godsend (there’s no financial aid for med school so you must pay full costs or take on a loan). Mizzou is a good school, it’s actually better than GSU, especially since as a full ride winner you will be in the Honors College. There’s a reason GSu has such an abysmal 4-year graduation rate and if you didn’t get a full ride scholarship there there’s no reason for you to go as it’s not a great school. In addition, I agree that college is the perfect time to step out of your comfort zone and discover a new part of the country.

I agree with MYOS. Avoiding debt is the best way to go.
