Can't meet Conditions of Admission to Berkeley?

Hello,

I'm sort of in the same situation as others that I've been reading up on....

I've been accepted to UC Berkeley, and agreed to meet the specified conditions below:

So the problem is, I've got a "D" in "THEATRE ARTS 103" which has also pummeled my Spring 2010 semester GPA below the required 3.0. On top of that, after running some math, I find that even if I had a "C" in "THEATRE ARTS 103," I would still end up with 59.5 TRANSFER UNITS COMPLETED, 0.5 under the required 60.

So basically I cant meet the following conditions:

Complete Spring courses with a C or higher
3.0 GPA at the end of Spring 2010
Transfer in with 60 UNITS

Is it likely that Berkeley will cancel my admission?
Is it possible that they'd let me enroll concurrently at Berkeley CC to satisfy UNITS or TART103?
Is it possible that I could transfer in during SPRING 2011 instead of FALL? (having satisfied reqs)

Obviously, I've been corresponding with my professor and my admissions officer furiously, trying to reach a solution to the chaos. My professor is being a hard on about changing my grade in the course, and my admissions officer has told me that my admission is in Jeopardy and that I should write an appeal to the commission explaining my situation, which I've done.

Any input is greatly appreciated.

My advise: Call admissions office ASAP.

First of all: Who is your admission officer?
You may have read my story (you mentioned you read up on people who were in trouble with berkeley’s conditions of admission). I am sort of in the same boat, as I don’t meet the 3.0 gpa requirement for the semester. the 59.5 unit thing is a new one for me though, I haven’t heard of anyone having that problem. In your application, did you say that you were taking enough units this semester (spring i mean) to get up to 60? Or did you only just count them? That may be hard to explain. Otherwise, if Berkeley knew all along that you were going to come in at 59.5 credits, they may think that you are close enough.

I’m sorry I don’t have anything more. I’m actually sort of in the same insecure position as you are right now - I don’t know what is going on with my admissions. I’m going up to Calso tomorrow, and I’m going to track my admissions counselor down and figure out what I need to do.

I’m in the same situation. My GPA for Winter/Spring '10 is at 2.85, rounded to 2.9. I need a 3.0 to meet the conditions. I only took 3 class my last semester, and one of them was a pass/no pass course. Hopefully they still allow me to go. My overall GPA coming in should be about 3.5 or 3.6. We’ll see. I just e-mailed my advisor…

Thanks for the reply folks.

I actually reviewed my units over again, and I must have miscounted. It appears I will be able to get the 60 units by the end of spring, because a “D” earns you units, unlike an “F.”

Still, I won’t have a 3.0 for the semester so that could be problematic, and I still have a “D” in TA103.

My professor is giving me the cold shoulder though. No response from her whatsoever, so I think I’m going to give her until July 5th, and then submit my Appeal stating that she’s being unresponsive.

Hopefully Berkeley will weigh the facts and see that a 68% in a theatre course is a ridiculous reason to cancel my admission over.

Actually, not to be mean or anything but a “D” in any course whether it be one for math or for basket-weaving is still a “D” and it should be counted as so. You obviously didnt do the work necessary to receive a better grade (which by the way, is kind of sad since its just a theater class and I have taken many of them to know this is the case.) Why should you be able to go to Cal when you cant even do decent work at your community college? I was in the same situation but the difference was I wasn’t failing my course and the “B” I received was after hard work. I was able to get my professor to change that grade to an “A” (which is what I needed to make my gpa accepted for the COA for Cal) and I was only 3 points off, so he let me write him a paper. I understand that some things get in the way but you shouldnt act like you didnt deserve that grade, or that Cal should ignore it. When I asked my admissions officer about my situation she told me that if you cant meet the admissions then your admissions is taken away. Its as simple as that. You have no excuse to have not passed the class, and the fact that your teacher isnt responding to you after the fact doesnt help your case.

****. I’m in the same boat.

Keep us updated.
