Can't see the board...

I can't see the board all that well anymore, so I went and got a prescription for a pair of glasses...well, I was talking to the doc and he's like "yea you need laser eye surgery..."

and i was like.... "don't you have to be 21?"
and his response was saying that I could be 18 and get it...

is this legit? I've looked up laser eye surgery and it said that you have to be 21 cause your eyes are still growing........damn sometimes i wish i had perfect vision

can you get it at 18? yes. at least at some places. However, Do most places recommend that you are 21? Yes. In fact, I've seen recommendations that you are at least 25, its not like everybody's eyes magically stop growing when you turn 21. I'd suck it up and get glasses or contacts now and use that for the next few years

wow your eyes must be real bad...i had the same problem but all i needed was a weak prescription and i was set. i agree with pinksquirrels that you should just get glasses or contacts and then once you feel comfortable go get laser eye surgery then.

I've had glasses for about 10 years now...I was losing them fairly frequently for the first couple years I had them...then my eyes got so bad they became a permanent fixture on my face, making them absolutely impossible to lose. Maybe I'll get LASIK, but I'm afraid of them screwing up.

Why would he jump from glasses all the way to laser surgery?

Get a second opinion, dude!
You're just too young.

Yeah I had troubles seeing the board in 9th grade so I just went out and got a prescription. Once I turn 21 I'll prolly get laser eye surgery though (military doctors > not).

I personally can't get over the fact that
1. you are awake during the operation
2. they put a suction cup to your eye, where the bursting of blood vessels is common
3. removal of a part of the cornea to be repositioned later
