D14 and I just tried to submit her first common app for UConn. Got to the payment page, sent payment successfully (received confirmation for that), and then....Common App sent me right back to payment page again! We could not go to step three to have her sign and submit.

So...I thought I did it wrong...and like an idiot, I did the whole thing again...yes, paid the fee AGAIN. And...it brought us right back to the payment page. Only options are to pay it (again) or cancel.

No green check for submission. She is stuck. Did anyone else have this problem? (I am contacting UConn for a refund and Common App for help.) I am so upset!!!!

Cake,
I am also interested in this problem because my DD will be submitting 3 applications this weekend using the Common App. Please post any updates. Thanks!!

A few days back several people posted saying it was taking up to two business days for their credit card payments to post and much longer if they were mailing payment. Assuming you used a card, my guess is that by Friday you’ll be cleared to get to the sign/submit page. The big lesson for all procrastinators is that this year waiting until the last minute could be a bigger mistake than usual.

It is good to know such potential problem. My D is about to submit her first CommonApp EA this weekend as a test of the system. The schools she is more interested it will be submitted a few weeks later after more revisions on the essays. Hopefully we will figure out the whole process by then to have a smooth submission. Due to the high school requirement, we will have to submit applications 3 weeks ahead of any deadline. I guess, we would not see the rush hour.

niceday–that’s what CA support responded to me. they said if it doesnt post within 48 hours to send them the card confirmation numbers for a refund. Will have to do for at least one of them, sigh.

Also, I found this on their Facebook page:

"Here are two known issues we’re working to resolve:

Submission errors after payment: Currently, some payment records are not being recorded accurately in applicant accounts. In these cases, applicants are being prevented from submitting their applications.

Email address changes: Students who register an account with one email address and then subsequently change that address within the Profile section of the application are experiencing login problems. This issue affects all applicants, but we’re seeing it most among students at Naviance schools as they try to match their Common App and Naviance accounts.

Again, each of these is a known issue that our development team is working to resolve. If your encounter either one of these situations, please have the APPLICANT contact the Help Center directly to we can assist: appsupport.commonapp.org."

Someone on FB also said to use Chrome instead of Firefox (which I was using), but I’m not sure that works (yet).

You’re not the only one. The same thing happened on Sunday when D applied to a college. I entered the electronic check information, submitted, received the confirmation and was sent right back to the payment screen. Tonight I FINALLY figured out how to contact the Common App folks and, at the same time, D found the question asked in the Help Center so its clearly a common problem. I sent an email (Help center/“ask a question” tab) where I was able to attach the copy of the payment confirmation.

We use Chrome exclusively and had the problem.

I did contact common app and gave them the confirmation numbers of the credit card (at another person’s suggestion on another thread)…they did quickly answer (within 24 hours) and linked the first payment with the app, and refunded the other payment. So…we were able to send the app, woot!

Haven’t tried the other apps yet, but at least there is a remedy.

I just experienced the same problem. I made payment, but I was not directed to signature page. Should I wait 48 hours and see what happens before doing anything? Should I call CA now?

I didn’t wait the full 24 hours. I just sent an email to common app with the confirmation numbers and my situation, and they linked it so I could finish the app (and refunded me the second payment I made). So it all worked out pretty quickly!

Ok after about 12 hours it went through. I just followed the submission steps again and when I got to payment it said payment had been received, then it allowed me to proceed.

Here’s an official response from Common App:

“You are able to see if the payment has been posted by following the steps of submission again, if you see the “paid” application fee message after the PDF preview, please proceed to the signature screen. If you are being prompted to pay again, stop. Please do not pay again. The dashboard will not display a green complete check for payment only.
Most application fee payments are posted immediately, others take between 24 and 48 hours. If your payment has not been posted to the application after 48 hours, please provide us your payment tracking number and the name of the school to which you made the payment.
If you submitted a duplicate payment the additional funds will automatically be refunded after the original payment has been posted. The refund may take up to 5 business days after the posting of the original payment.
Admission offices are aware of the payment delays and understand that your application may be submitted a little later. It is your responsibility to check periodically to see if the payment has been posted by following the steps of submission again. The dashboard will not display a green complete check until the application has been submitted by you.”

My D’s CA submissions have been pretty smooth. She did 2 on Sunday and one today and all submissions for CA, supplements, and payments are completed without any issue.
