Hello, I’m really interested in taking AP Physics next year but I won’t be able to since I’m required to take economics and won’t have the space otherwise. I have the opportunity to take the class outside of school; however, the school says it has to be taken IN school for it to count. Does anybody know if there’s any way around this? I want to keep all my other classes. Schedule listed here if curious:
Agree with @skieurope about dropping AP Psych for Physics if that is possible. AP Physics is the more rigorous course and it shows you have taken a science senior year. It is probably the simplest route.
One question I would ask is do you need AP Physics to “count” for HS? Is it necessary for graduation? Is it necessary for your guidance counselor to check the box saying that you have taken the most rigorous schedule available at the HS? If not, you might consider taking class outside of the high school and reporting it to colleges on your application. You would have to send the transcript for AP Physics separately from your HS transcript but it could be possible. You can talk to your guidance counselor about this. Also, where would you take it outside of your HS – be certain it is at a reputable/accredited school.
When you say “take in school for it to count” are you referring to your GPA? Unless your going for valedictorian not sure if it matters that much. Or are you needing the class because you have to have x number of science classes in order to graduate?
I would simply replace the AP Psych with the Physics. You’re better off taking the psych class at a CC anyways (if you wanted to) since you can take the class in one semester rather than a whole year.
Yep, replace AP Psych with AP Physics. Psych will only get you ~3 college credits; it’s not worth spending an entire year on. If you’re still interested in it in college, it’ll be easier than taking it as an AP.
