So I took a dual enrollment course at a community college and we had our final, but the last question had instructions to write sentences but had no text box. I thought my instructor just forgot to add the text box, because she usually messes something up on our tests. Usually when she does this she just gives us back the points so I didn’t think much of it at first. But I told my mom and she said just in case to send my response through email to her. My teacher did not believe me when I explained it to her, and said all my classmates had no problem. There was literally no where for me to type, so I contacted the help center of Canvas to see if they could see what happened. They said it probably has something to do with my cache. This grade is preventing me from an A in this class. I don’t know if I should still peruse it, like even just partial credit. I am just less than a point from an A. I need advice or recommendations.
Yes I would pursue it, because this is not fair. Do you know who to contact about this? A department chair, dean? Do you have an advisor? Can the tech folks explain this to the teacher? This professor is being rigid and it really bothers me when teachers are so jaded that they don’t believe a student. Plus, you emailed it to her. It’s not like you skipped the question. If you have the money i would even hire an advocate. Whether this makes a difference in your academic career may be an important point to consider, but in light of the teacher’s behavior, my reaction is that grade is irrelevant and this is just plain unjust.
I’d go higher up and keep pushing. The fact that you emailed your teacher the answer, presumably before time was called, shows that you were trying to be honest.
Sounds like the email was sent later after a discussion with the mom and not during the testing window. Ideally it should still be counted if it was sent promptly and before the test was graded.
A learning management system (LMS), like with most technology, has times when it does not work perfectly. Hard to believe a professor would be so closed minded.
Your college has a head of instructional design, head of learning technology, head of academic integrity, head of learning tools… someone who would be willing to listen.
Good luck!
It is possible that your instructor messed something up when the test was created. If this has happened before, she might be worried about getting in trouble on her end.
I am going to write to the teacher again and include the import provided to me and see what happens. For claification after the test had ended when I sent the email, almost half an hour later. If I knew that it would have been a problem I would have done so during test. It was first and only class using Canvas as a platform, and like I said earlier she made several mistakes on the test/quizes where she would just ammend the points, and I’m not even done with highschool so I was worried about being taken seriously. During the almost 30 minutes between the email and the test, I was telling my mom how I felt about my final and describing the question that brought up trouble. My mom suggested sending an email with a response to the question just in case, but was hesitant becasue I was going to expalin this discussion that I had with my mom to the professor and said their not going to accept imput from parents when your in college. It only took me a few minutes contruct the scentences, I wish I had the instincts to send them right away.
