My daughter has been accepted to this program for the summer. Any feedback about this
program? Got to make a decision quick. Waiting on BTP and already accepted at OCU.

My D attended this program last summer and LOVED it. She learned so much and grew so much as an artist and a person. She was also accepted at OCU and waitlisted for MPulse but NYU was her first choice. The instructors are amazing. Cap21 faculty were inspiring and pushed them hard. The academic component was a highlight for my D as well–she really enjoyed the discussions, the readings, the field trip activities, the Broadway shows. They are in NY after all and that is their classroom. THe PA’s (program assistants) were helpful. compassionate, fun and nurturing. The kids really bonded with one another and with the PA’s as well. One nice thing about NYU over places like MPulse or OCU is that the students interact some with kids in other studios like ETW. THey workshopped scripts that other kids were writing. I can’t speak highly enough about how life-changing this experience was for my child. It sealed her resolve to study MT in college and to pursue it as a career.

How is the housing and the roommate situation? Are they allowed to leave on their own to go to shows and to do their own things?

Do you mean the 4 week one through NYU or the 6 week one through Cap21 only?

NYU Tisch is the one my D did–they are supervised most of the time. (They have some unstructured free time) Housing is NYU dorms, food is included, shows are included–everything is included in price.
(This is what my daughter did last summer)

Cap 21 they ONLY have technique classes, no academic, classes only included in price, no housing, no food, no shows, etc. They are on their own to find housing and food etc. They have lots of free time to do whatever they want–they are basically on their own in NYC.
(We know some who did this one last summer and really enjoyed this as well)

She is doing the cap 21 classes only, no housing ect included.
Does it have a good reputation?

I have had a couple friends who did the program strictly with CAP21 and they loved it. I got accepted this year and I am still waiting to hear from BTP, but I already sent CAP my check so that doesn’t really matter. I have never heard anything bad about the program, so I think it has a good reputation. Wherever she ends up I am sure she will have a great time and learn a lot!

thanks,so you will be at Cap 21 this summer. Where r u from? Are you a junior this year?
My daughter is so excited about being in the city for 5 weeks on her own!! She lives in Mississippi. She has been to NYC alot for week long intensives.
Do you know how many get in this program?

I’m from LA so I’ll be all the way on the other side of the country. Yes I’m a junior this year. I think they usually accept around 60 but the classes are broken up into smaller groups. I can’t wait! I think it’s a great way for me to learn if NYC is the place I want to be.

My daughter is also going, also a junior and from Los Angeles. As she is too young for NYU housing (must be 17 , and she won’t be 17 until the end of the program) so she applied for housing through the New School.

R u appying for the NYU housing?

mom24girls, tell me about the new school my daughter is 17 now so we can apply at NYU housing.

If you go to the New School website (one cannot post links here on CC or I would), you can find the info on summer housing. I’ll PM you the info later (I’m on my phone now and don’t know how to do it!). I think it would be great if the kids started a facebook group so they could “meet” each other before the program begins.

that would be great ,it would make me feel better if my daughter knew some kids beforehand

FYI…

Thanks so much! I didn’t understand the difference and was just trying to abide by the rules! So, in that case, here is the link

college mom thanks for the info

Have you applied for housing here yet? Can anyone in the Cap 21 program use this housing service or do you have to be under 17? Does your daughter have a roommate yet? Maybe our 2 girls could talk . I think the facebook site would be a great idea. i dont know how to do it. I know may daughter does.
Could not find out anything about the rates for the housing. Do you know?

I don’t know if post #10 was directed at me, but once NYU has their summer applications out, I will be applying for housing.

Yes it was? I wish they would hurry up? do you know about new school housing?

Oreosmom, I sent you a PM!
