Does anyone have any thoughts or experience with someone completing the 2 yr professional program with CP 21? Just curious since you’d have to track down housing which seems like a very scary process to those of us not city smart. Plus I think quote a few people use that program as additional training after college right? Not right out of high school?
I know that @eastchesterMom has a daughter in the Molloy/Cap21 four year program she might be able to help.
I don’t know much about the current Cap 21 two year program, so I can’t answer how they handle housing. But, the Stella Adler Acting Studio has a 3 year program and they have an arrangement for housing at this link.

I mention this because it appears as though you might be interested in non-degree programs also. The Stella Adler program (according to their studio) follows the same acting curriculum that is used for the kids in the NYU program and even shares some of the faculty. The program through Stella Adler does not include the academic courses and is 4 days per week of acting and performance, so can be completed in just 3 years. And, tuition is just $15,000/year. It is also an audition only program.
The Stella Adler arrangement for housing is generally for summer students (which can be seen clicking on the housing link). We took a look at it as my D was invited to be a part of a summer training there this year. We found it VERY pricey (even by NYC standards) far above what we pay for NYU dorms. No idea if they offer year long housing.
Also, as the Adler website explains- their 3 year conservatory is meant to be more like MFA training.
“The 3 Year Conservatory is a cohesive, MFA-equivalent program that prepares the student actor for the creative challenges of the acting profession by providing students with a solid craft that guarantees continued growth as a creative artist.”
But @Dusing2 is correct in that it is taught in the same building as the NYU classes, and shares many of the same teachers.
I have a friend whose daughter just moved down to NYC for the 2-year Cap 21 program. I can try to put you in touch if you want to PM me.
^ I know that person too, and the kid had to find her own housing, even fresh out of high school. One option (that I know was presented to them) is the Educational Housing Service. It is expensive, but secure and safe and a really good option, especially the first year, especially if you don’t know the City well. My daughter stayed in EHS during 2 summers of ArtsBridge in NYC several years ago, one in Brooklyn, and one 0n the Upper East Side, and both were REALLY nice!!! http://www.studenthousing.org
The EHS is what Stella Adler uses.
I was just wondering in general about people’s experiences. I think my D just needs to go into a 4 yr college but no hurt in exploring options.
@theaterwork - then by all means, check out the CAP21/Molloy BFA. All the benefits of a degree from a highly respected suburban college, plus the renowned CAP 21 training! My D is leaving tomorrow to start her sophomore year. She loves it! I don’t know anything about the two year program, but if the website isn’t enough, call the Director, Frank Ventura, is a great guy and will make sure all of your questions are answered.
Yes @EastchesterMom we have that program down. I like the idea of it and living at molloy. Is the additional cap tuition like around $6000? Then your molloy tuition? It seemed like it was about same price as some private schools we are looking at. Also does she have issues getting to her classes in NYC like time wise?
Yes, CAP 21 costs an additional $6000. The kids get used to the commute very quickly. Molloy shuttles them to and from the LIRR. They all go together, which is part of the fun.
