CAP at UT Arlington

Hey, I didn’t really know where else I could post this… but for those accepting the CAP program at UTA, I was going to create a group me for those who plan on attending UTA for CAP. This is for like roommate purposes and such because I cannot find a facebook page or anything currently! If you’re interested, message me your number and I will create one! Thanks and I hope this upcoming year goes fast.

^ can I ask what made you choose this CAP campus over the others?

@goingnutsmom I am from the DFW area so I’m familiar with the area is one of the factors! UTSA was filled in like 5 minutes and Arlington is right in between Fort Worth and Dallas so you can’t go wrong there. I’ve heard it’s not too difficult to meet the CAP requirements as well here.

I will be attending UT Arlington as well because UTSA filled up too quickly(in less than 2 minutes). I’ll message you so I can join the group.

I’m currently a CAP student at UTA, if you have any questions feel free to ask me

^ will you be coming to Austin this coming fall? What do you think of your experience there and would you recommend UTA for a CAP student?

I’ll be attending UTA in the fall

I’m almost positive I’ll be taking part in the CAP program this fall, if this groupme is still a thing…?

Is that group me still happening? I searched for a group on Facebook but the only one I found had about two members

I started a group me for UTA Cap last year this is a really good idea because I made a lot of friends from it so I would highly suggest y’all get some form of communication going

All students feel free to PM me for the Group me. Our groupme currently has two other members besides me!

Do you have to bring your parents to your Orientation, am I allowed to go alone?

https://www.uta.edu/orientation/freshmen/Parents%20.php

“While your student is required to attend New Maverick Orientation, the parent program is optional.”

Quick question for CAP, during orientation when you take the TSI placement test what happens if you dont make the required score to get above college alg. Will you not be able to complete the CAP reqs because of having to to take developmental courses?

http://admissions.utexas.edu/enroll/cap/prospective-students/utep

On the right side of the page, there is a link to the pdf of approved CAP courses. Here is what it says at the top:

“To be eligible for guaranteed fall 2017 enrollment in the UT Austin College of
Liberal Arts, Coordinated Admission Program students at UT El Paso must
complete 30 approved semester hours of coursework (including a mathematics
course other than College Algebra) with at least a 3.2 grade point average by
June 1, 2017.”

If you take College Algebra in the Fall, you’ll need to take something else in the Spring to get into COLA.

If you want to attempt to transfer into the other colleges, most of them require Math 1411 and 1312 (Calc I and Calc II). If you are attempting one of those majors, you’ll be delayed. You can transfer to COLA at UT and then spend time getting the Calc II credit and transferring into your desired college.

Short answer- if you are trying to get to COLA, you should be fine. If you are trying to get somewhere else, you’ll have to make a detour through COLA before you can get to your destination.

Classes at UTA are extremely easy. My advice would be to get a job. Make some money and use your time wisely. You’ll have plenty of down time. I used to just hang out with my friends, or workout, or go work during my downtime. Id study on the weekends(uta has no parties) and very little throughout the week. I made one B. It was in cal 1. Cal was a very hard class. Cal 2 was much easier.

@helpthanks If you do not pass the TSI, you can’t even take College Algebra. Passing the TSI is essential if you don’t want to take Remedial math. For example, if you do not pass the TSI, you have to take Remedial math and and an additional class that counts toward the CAP requirement or spring semester you will have to take Math 1301 (Math for liberal arts majors which counts as higher than algebra 2) or Statistics 1311 or whatever math class you want and and additional class in order to get your 30 hours in total. Either way you will end up taking 15 hours one semester and 18 hours the next. So it’s very important to pass the all TSI test if you’re not exempt. This is a bit embarrassing, but I suck at math and it took me 3 times to pass the TSI math test. I passed the others the first try. Which is exactly why I’m a liberal arts major and not a major that involves a bunch of math because I suck at it lol.

Could I join y’alls group me! I will be attending UTA as my CAP school!
