CAP Coordinated Admissions Program at UT El Paso UTEP.

Anyone chose UTEP for their CAP year? I think it is something like the least chosen CAP school of the program (I will be going from Houston) but I’m from SA and wasn’t feeling Tyler too much, so excited to see what UTEP has to offer and beyond everything else even more excited to transfer to Austin! Anyone else out there considering UTEP? or Know anything about it (academics or the like) Please comment!

I’m choosing UTEP for CAP! I grew up in Houston and moved to El Paso 4 years ago. I wanted to leave for college, but I wasn’t feeling any of the other UT schools much either. Academics are phenomenal and there’s a lot of school spirit, and El Paso is an up and coming city. The UTEP architecture is beautiful and many renovations have happened (and are still happening) over the past few years. There are many resources and activities for college kids in this town. I’d love to meet someone else in CAP at UTEP!

@aadriii Hey!! That’s awesome! I’ve definitely been looking for someone doing CAP at UTEP! I know nothing about El Paso, lived in Texas my whole life but never passed San Antonio. What orientation are you going to? Are you gonna be a commuter or live on campus? What Austin major are you aiming for?

@habache622 I haven’t registered for orientation because I barely submitted the CAP form, and they haven’t contacted me yet. I’m gonna live on campus so I can focus on my studies. I’m hoping for Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science. What about you?

Awesome same here miner village it’s looking like. I’ll be going to the June 22nd orientation it’s the UTCAP student orientation. And I’m hoping for economics. They emailed me about 2 weeks after I submitted the agreement and then after that it was just: submit your HS transcript, SAT scores, and fax your meningitis vaccination proof so if you do all of that asap it should speed everything up for getting you admitted so you can apply for housing and catch the June 22nd orientation and get 1st pick on classes and such. I’m pretty sure as soon as you get a UTEP my status account you can apply for housing weather you’re “admitted” yet or not. I haven’t even applied for housing but gonna do it soon. Definitely send them all of your stuff and call a lot to make sure they match it with your application asap.

@aadriii

I’m thinking Miner Village or Miner Canyon, the new one. I already have a MyStatus account because I also applied there as a normal student. I’m not sure if they would make me start over with transcripts and stuff when they get my CAP information; I’ll have to email them to find out. I look forward to seeing you there at the CAP Orientation!

@aadriii yeah I was excited about canyon until I saw the room styles (suite as opposed to standard in village) and prices. Just gonna go the cheapest route since it’s CAP I guess. And yeah definitely, I still don’t know how I’m getting there but it should be a cool time haha we should keep in touch for sure

Where did you find the room styles? I’ve been looking all over for them.

Do you know how many people usually do CAP at UTEP? I know UTSA is the most popular, but I don’t really know much else.

@aadriii the UTEP student housing website has them for village. And if you click on “apply now” it has the styles and prices for village and canyon. Very little, I saw a CAP progress report from 2012 that showed 463 CAP students at UTSA and 33 at UTEP so we’re definitely in the minority haha. From what I remember from the report (can’t find it anymore) UTEP CAP enrollment ranges from 20-75 students total depending on the year for whatever reason. What’s even scarier is the %age of CAP students actually transferring to Austin when it’s over

Thanks. I think the small percentage of CAP students that do transfer are due to the GPA. I have a few friends who are at UTEP right now and they recommended which professors to take. I just registered for the June 22 orientation, so if I see you there, I can hook you up with the info too :slight_smile:

@aadriii that sounds awesome!! I’ve been looking on rate my professor too haha. I’ll definitely be looking forward to catching you at orientation, maybe we can take a few classes the same and make sure we get to ATX

yeah sounds great! :slight_smile:

I am choosing UTEP for my CAP year! My dad comes from El Paso and my mom attended school for a short time in El Paso, I love it. There are so many neat places and things to do there! I am so excited to hear that other CAP students will be attending UTEP, it’ll be nice to have people there that are in the same situation as me!
