Cap program: Classes to take?

I'm a prospective CAP student and I was wondering what classes I should take next year at UTD. 30 hrs requirement for my freshman year seems easy but I am already taking AP Biology, AP Chem, AP Government, AP English and Calculus DC. I am pretty sure I will pass the AP exams and get credit for the courses but I am worried that the available classes in the approved course list for UTD won't make up for the 30 hrs. I want to major in premed, so I don't want to waste my time taking useless classes. I really want to go to UT, so please help me!

If you’re doing CAP I wouldn’t recommend taking many AP tests, it’ll hurt you more than help. The approved course list is already pretty limited, so if you earn too much college credit then you run the risk of running out of courses to take. I would suggest taking the Math and Science AP tests (Seeing as how this will allow you to take the higher level math/science courses freshman year). Stick with basic english, government, etc. (Easy A’s)

Basically I would suggest taking the easiest classes possible on the approved CAP course list. You want to get into UT with the highest GPA possible, you can’t risk anything lower than a C and dropping a class during the Fall semester means 18+ credit hours in the Spring (And you sure as hell can’t drop anything during the Spring).

Since you’re doing premed, math and science should really be your only “hard” courses, and I would only advise taking these if you’re sure you can get at least a B in each. If you aren’t positive, I wouldn’t suggest taking the course. Dropping courses in the CAP program is a huge pain, so every course you take matters.

Thanks for the help! I kinda of forgot that my government and english class were dual credit courses. So, I would get the credit for the classes regardless. That doesn’t leave much room for me to choose on the approved cap courses. If you don’t mind, could you tell me which classes you would take at UTD if you were a premed student? Thanks again!

There were a good number of classes on the CAP list and the idea of running out of ones to take is a bit ridiculous. You just may run into situations where you cannot take more in a certain sequence though and are forced to take a class that doesn’t do much for your major, but you need electives anyways. What is your planned major at UT?
