So im a current CAP student at UTSA , and am planning to transfer at the end of this semester , so if future CAP at UTSA or Anywhere students have any questions post them on hear and i can clear the confusion or give insight.
MODERATOR’S NOTE: Anyone is free to ask or answer questions in this thread.
Where do you pay the Application processing fee ?
is it hard to transfer into a non-liberal arts major and is it hard to get a high GPA?
@Machovich you pay the application fee on mystatus
@anonymoose100 I’m currently applying for an external transfer into engineering , so i can’t answer the first part of the question , but is it hard to get a high GPA , your question really depends on yourself , for me it wasn’t too bad i got a 3.94 last semester , but really its definitely possible , its not as bad as you think college is made out to be , you just have to put in the work , don’t slack off and don’t get too distracted , that being said I’m not saying don’t have fun , definitely do so but just know how to manage your time and get your priorities right during the week … also join some clubs looks good on your resume lol
@MyLonghorn OK thanks. Did you have to take a bunch of math and science classes because of your major? I’m thinking of taking most of the harder math and science classes at UTSA before transferring, because I heard it’s easier and I think it will probably look better for computer science. In fact, I’m currently planning out my whole year of basically all math and science-related classes… is that a good idea
@anonymoose100 well your going to have to take AIS(required freshman course) and writing composition 1 and 2 … as those are required regardless of if your a freshman or not , and you can only take up to calc 3 in math , so idk plan to knock out your core classes since major related ones don’t transfer
@anonymoose100 , heads up though CS is still practically impossible to transfer into , so try looking into Electrical and Computer Engineering or a Degree in Math or something… have a backup if your going to apply to CS
@MyLonghorn so if I don’t get into Computer Science… can I choose a second major? Or will i have to choose undergrad studies/liberal arts
What does your schedule look like?
@anonymoose100 if you don’t get into CS then your backup/second major has to be something in liberal arts/ugs , you’ll get an email in November year in which you pick your first choice major which can be anything and then your second major which has to be guaranteed.

@Machovich @anonymoose100 signup for the first orientation that is available and always pick professors over time if you have the option , and 8 am is worth it if the professor gives more A’s , also the UTSA advisors are some of the most clueless people you meet so you guys will have to do your own hw/research and plan ahead … stay focused and you guys should be good to go
I heard that UTSA students hate CAP students, is that true? If so, what was your experience?
@LovinLia they don’t hate us … like nobody is going to outright come and beat you up for being a CAP student , but they kinda of despise us within because they feel were only there to transfer, but in all honesty you will make CAP friends if you live on Campus and also an easy way to avoid is just don’t bring it up in conversation lol its not as bad as you think there are a lot of really cool people here also
Regarding the orientation, do you remember around what time they start offering them.
When you do transfer to UT, is it difficult to get the dorm you want? When do you apply for housing after/during your CAP year?
@MCCXVII I’m pretty sure you get pick your orientation in mid-late april from what i remember , there were 2 orientation one was late june and the other was early august . i don’t know if there will be 2 orientations because its limited at UTSA so there might only be one ! meet the other CAP kids make friends … best time to as they all plan to transfer also
@LovinLia I’m planning on staying in an apartment west campus with a couple of CAP friends i made here but for dorms i think you can send in your application since like November when you get the CAP application email… but even after you send in the application , it won’t move you down the process until you get accepted so that would be around late may
@MyLonghorn If it’s so hard to get into UT Computer Science as a CAP student then should I just choose ECE as my first choice? What clubs do you suggest I join? And will doing work-study distract me?
