CAP UTSA vs. UMD Bioengineering

I got CAP to UTSA and also got admitted to University of Maryland-College Park Scholars program. I want to do biomedical engineering or bioengineering. Any advise on these options?

i think that Biomedical Engineering is one of the majors that isnt guaranteed through CAP. If you are confident you can pull a 3.5 or better go for it. IF you want to play it safe go to UM, and if you dont like it just transfer out.

I don’t know how Maryland is engineering wise, but I know in general it is a great school. As Pierre said, a 3.2 at UTSA would not automatically get you into the engineering school, you would have to get a better GPA most likely.
CAP is definitely a great program if UT is really where you want to be. But, Maryland could be an amazing experience too. You would also have less hassles going to Maryland. CAP can be a little stressful in the spring when you start looking for housing and orientation and all that stuff.

There is something to be said for a four year continuous college experience. Maryland is a great school. My daughter considered it seriously, before choosing UT. We visited the school on two occasions. It is a beautiful campus. The school is excellent. Many OOS kids from all over. The scholars program is top notch. Go be a terrapin.

Thank you very much for your advise. I just learned that through CAP I will have to at least spend 1 extra year at UT Austin to major in Biomedical Engineering, vs going directly to Bioengineering at UMCP.

I don’t see how difficult this decision is: garunteed biomed at UMD vs CAP with UT. Definitely go with UMD.

i wonder why you would have to spend an extra year at UT? it must be something specific to that major, just go to UM.

UM all the way!!
