In my opinion, back when this thread was more active, the changes had just been announced and were in the midst of being fleshed out and many questions arose (understandably!) for current and entering students. I believe that the parents of such students here (and I am not one of them and am not privy to this or involved in it as my kid already graduated) were suggesting that parents and students inquire directly and make their thoughts and concerns known to the powers that be since many details were still being worked out. I think they felt that there is power in numbers and that the more voices that are heard by those making some decisions, the better. That said, since that time, a thread HAS gone up on this forum that explains the outcome of many of the details (perhaps not all the details but more than before):

From what I can see, this thread right here that I am posting on now died down as a newer thread took off where this one left off as new information had been released from Tisch. That’s what I was observing.

While I may be one of the frequent NYU posters you refer to, I had nothing to really add as I am not privy to inside information for current and entering students. I fielded questions if I could but could not say what was going on at the school as the letters being released went to those who are in the program now or about to enter. I do believe that many posters have shared what they know on this forum. But that can never replace getting information from the direct source. And in this case, the information was in flux and it made sense for those who are students to make their concerns known or to pose their valid questions with the source. Perhaps the parents here who were doing that wanted other parents and students to chime in with CAP21 and with Tisch to have certain issues addressed as it can help if a school hears from more than just a few. Power in numbers, as they say.

Yes, new applicants won’t be applying and stating CAP21 as a first choice studio as that is no longer an option, but a new MT studio has taken its place. That said, you don’t apply to a studio at Tisch. You apply to Tisch drama and at the audition, let them know the studio you are hoping to enter and obviously a MT applicant sings at the audition.

I think most of the parents from Cap the other day really felt misled since they weren’t able to make an informed decision originally - some were noticeably upset and they weren’t hearing what they wanted to hear. For the most part, I got a genuine response from most of the professors and as I said, they worked it out so there will be no difference for the Strasberg kids. I hope it works out for the incoming Cap kids. If for some reason NYU can’t reach an agreement with Cap, NYU will create something specifically for those kids to finish out their two years. It is my understanding that they will not be put into the newly created program for the incoming freshmen of 2010.

Kids that are currently in the Tish Cap21 program will have a plan developed especially for them where they leave off with the Cap21 program. It is the faculty’s hope, however, that they will be able to reach an agreement with Cap21 so that the kids can complete the full cycle if they wish to do so. Whatever happens though, it was clear that these kids would not be put into the “New Studio” as they wouldn’t have a 3rd and 4th year for them to go into and it wouldn’t be meeting the student’s needs.

I’ve read 8 of the 10 pages on this thread and seem to have missed what will happen to CAP21? Most everyone is concerned about NYU’s program.

I’ve got a different question. What will CAP21 do without NYU? Will they offer their own program? If so when will it open and how do you audition for it? What are their admission criteria? Or is CAP21 looking to join up with some other university?

Your question is probably best asked of Frank Ventura. As to their own program, yes, there is a new two year professional program. There is information on their website.

It will be interesting to see if they attempt to reach some agreement with another university, although I can’t imagine which one. They cannot provide financial aid unless and until they are an accredited institution, which they are not. They also do not have housing available. So, those two items will certainly be issues for many applicants.

Thanks for the link. It looks like perhaps one more option. They have a banner on the web site listing in bold: “SCHOLARSHIPS AVAILABLE – PLEASE CONTACT US”

This will be interesting to follow as it develops.

They are working on developing it now. I believe it is going to be a great thing for the kids. If nothing else, there will be more opportunities for the kids, not fewer.
