CAP21 Pre College Program 2007

Hey guys! I just had my audition for the program today and i got in! I asked my friend who goes to CAP21 about the program but she didn’t know a lot about it so i thought to come here and talk with people who have gone…

To anyone who can answer these questions:
How many kids do they accept ever summer?
Where did you stay since they do not provide housing?
If you are an alumni, where do you now go to college and other students who have attended go?
What are the chances of getting into the actualy school when I apply after attending their summer program?

Also, I would love to hear any additional information about the program! Thanks so much!

~Corey

Hey Corey,
I was at the program last year and it is truly an amazing program.

To answer your questions...
Last summer we had about 64 students. I don't know if they accept more than 64 and hope that some won't go or if they accept 64 and then go to the waitlist (I know of at least one who was accepted off the waitlist). But however they do it, they end up with a group of about 64.

I live close enough to NYC that I commuted every day (about an hour train ride) but a bunch of my friends lived in the NYU dorms. It might be too late but apply for NYU housing NOW. Like right NOW. I know the New School also has summer housing available. But definitely get on this ASAP if you are going to attend beucase you don't want to be stuck without a place to live during the summer.

I am going to Northwestern next year as a theatre major with another girl from the program. MANY kids applied to Tisch early decision (for all different studios )and most of them got accepted. A bunch of others applied regular to Tisch and a few have heard already and some are still waiting (they don't know if they will be going next year or what studio they will be attending). I believe one is going to BOCO next year, 2 got accepted into CCM, a few into Hartt, Wagner, MArymount Manhattan. That's pretty much all I know. But most of the kids that do the program go into theatre in college.

As far as helping you get into NYU/Tisch, I'm not sure how much this helps. This program is not run by NYU, it is run by CAP21. But, I think that NYU recognizes the integrity of this program and will take that into account during your audition. But also, you need the grades and everything else to get into NYU.

Congratulations on your acceptance. You will have an amazing summer!

As this program is not associated with NYU/Tisch, maybe this thread should be incorporated into the Summer Program thread or it could become a thread of its own. As we all know, NYU/Tisch/CAP21 also has a summer precollege Program (non audition, but which requires an essay, recommendations and school transcripts).

Awesome feedback! I really appreciate it! Yeah, the whole CAP21 being a part of NYU thing is a bit confusing but I talked with a friend of mine who goes to CAP21 and she cleared it up. Basically it is part of Tische during the school year but during the summer they act independently.

Also, I would love to know of anyone else who has gotten into the Pre-College program for this summer (2007)!!!

I actually think that Tisch has a cooperative program with CAP21 during both the school year and the summer, as NYU does offer a musical theater precollege program (Tisch/CAP21) this summer and has in previous summers. There also is the independent CAP21 precollege program (and summer professional programs) not associated with NYU. The NYU/Tisch/CAP21 precollege summer program is four weeks, whereas the summer CAP21 program (not professional) is six weeks. Hence, the confusion! I was commenting that those applying to the independent CAP21 precollege summer program should establish this as its own thread, rather than placing it under the aegis of NYU/Tisch, because the program you are talking about is NOT part of NYU.

ok...cool. I think i'll just keep it here. It doesn't seem to be doing harm.

Happened to be talking to my D tonight who has a friend who was looking for summer housing at NYU and apparently it's too late to apply. They even closed off the waitlist a few weeks ago.

I think I remember from last year that kids who wanted to go to the CAP21 summer precollege program were urged to apply for housing even before they learned if they were accepted, just to make sure they could find some! But I also think that kids doing the CAP21 (non NYU) program don't have to stay in NYU housing; they can find something else on their own.

Yeah NYU housing is def gone, but luckily i think i found housing at The New School which is 1-2 blocks away! We just need to finalize the paper work and I think I'll be all set!

Anyone else on here planning to attend the program this summer (2007)? Would love to hear from you on here or via facebook!!

Friend me at Corey Desjardins on Fbook. Send a message saying you are going to CAP21 this summer so I know who you are...thanks!

I got in the CAP 21 precollege program 07 too!

Me too! A bunch of us have formed a Facebook group if you want to join! I'm so excited for this summer!

On the audition form for NYU they do ask if you attended the pre-college program. I'm sure it does nothing but help.

Has anybody applied but not heard back yet? A friend of mine has and she's quite frustrated.
