I posted this on the summer program thread but didn't get a response so I thought I'd try a new thread.

A friend of our D was just accepted to the Cap21 summer program and she told D that she would be able to earn Equity points during the summer session. I have never seen this discussed on CC. Can anyone with knowledge of the Cap21 summer program clarify whether this information is true?

Thank-you

I think she must have misunderstood them. How would she earn Equity points by taking classes?

She can possibly earn College Credits, but I believe that's dependant on which CAP program you do.

Chris is right. The Tisch CAP21 summer program will give the student six points of college credits. The CAP21 summer program through the studio itself will not, but neither has anything to do with Equity points.

Thank-you for the clarification. I was almost certain that there wouldn't be Equity points attached to a summer program. Now I know I was right. I guess my D's friend might have misunderstood the college credit part. I didn't know there were 2 different programs at NYU. What is the difference between the Tisch Cap21 summer program and the regular Cap21 summer programs (other than the issue of college credit)?

The Tisch/CAP21 program is offered through New York University and is a non-auditioned musical theater program that lasts four weeks. Participants earn 6 college credits. The CAP21 program is auditioned and lasts six weeks and people who participate earn no credits. People on this board have attended both, and liked each for its own reasons. (As an aside, I hear there is also a CAP21 professional summer program for people who are 18 and older, just to throw another monkey wrench into the machinery.) Another difference is that people interested in the Tisch/CAP21 precollege program had to submit their transcripts, recommendations, essays and so on back in early Feb., whereas, as of March, people were still able to audition for the standalone CAP21 program, I believe. Now, are you thoroughy confusified, as Galinda would say? ;)

Thanks, NotMamaRose, you did a good job of explaining the differences between the 2 programs and no, I'm not "confusified" by what you said (wish I knew how to make the "smiley" faces). Now I'm wondering which program my D's friend got in to. I also didn't know about the professional summer program at Cap21. How long has it been running? Both my kids will be at BTP this summer but it's always nice to know about other opportunities for summer study.

MTaussie, to make the smiling faces, you use punctuation marks. For instance, to do a smile, you use a colon (one dot on top of the other) and an end parentheses. (I can't do it here to show you, as it will turn into an emoticon!) I believe that our friend WallyWorld once gave a tutorial on this very subject, so if you search his user name, it will come up. He is a better teacher than am I!

Thank-you, NotMamaRose :)
