CAPd

Congrats to everyone that got in but i got CAPd

im not sure if its worth it for me? i figure it will be pretty hard to transfer to Mccombs, so i might just go somewhere else? if you got CAPd what is your plan?

It is a very individual decision. If you have a lot of AP credits, it may be hard to find enough classes to take to fulfill the CAP contract. IF you decide to go the CAP route, check the individual school’s websites to see what courses they will offer (the fall schedule may be up now) and learn their policy on AP courses. Some schools automatically include all classes you are eligible to claim AP credit for on your transcript, while others allow you to choose.

i think im goin to pass, if my grades are good enough at tech or A&M this time next year i will just apply as a transfer but then again i will probably just stay.

If you do the CAP Program and you want to get to McCombs try and take Calculus I & II along with Micro/Macro economics at your CAP school or take it during the summer after finishing the CAP program otherwise it will be tough once you get to UT because as a former CAP student and current UT student I can tell you that UT looks down up CAP students.

yea thats the factor for me, i dont think i would get into Mccombs so their for im not going to do CAP. maybe i will do graduate work at UT, we will see in the next 4 years

AALI: really? UT looks “down” upon CAP kids? uh-oh

i was capped this year. still deciding whether or not i really want UT that bad.

but i dont understand. why would they LOOK DOWN!? panic isn’t it that ur qualified but they dont have room-- they want u to prove urself. otherwise wouldnt they just reject u and tell u transfer.

pls. explain.

thanks.

Since i’m in the top 10 for final rankings my admissions counselor told me im auto admitted for spring 2011 so i think i might just go to acc for fall semester and start at UT in the spring. Even though SMU and A&M are awesome schools, i know that if I don’t go to UT i’ll regret it

yea by all means start in the spring, but if your tryna do business or something like that just be sure to get your GPA up.

@bumble yea for me i dont want to go to UT bad enough to do CAP, i would much rather go somewhere else an just try to transfer in if i end up wanted to go to UT

yeah i’m starting to seriously consider this because i eventually want to get into mccombs so i’m thinking i could get calc I & II out of the way over summer and fall so that way i’ll have a higher gpa in these harder classes then i would probably get taking it at UT

but what other schools did you get into? in reality does going to Mccombs really put you above someone at other top schools?

the thing is… UT Austins name carries ALOT of weight for some reason. [like i know its a great school… but it carries alot alot of weight. my dad was telling me how his boss favored UT’s degree over Rice. ? i was seriously confused… ]

so. its such a tough decision. AHHHHHH I DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO. =S

I got into SMU and A&M. They were the only other 2 i applied to.

im not sure about the weight thing, if you are going to get your masters i dont think it will matter that you got a BA/BS from UT, im just exploring my other options, i dont think theirs a big chance i can get into Mccombs through CAP, so i may just go somewhere else, and just try to go to UT school of law in the future,

@soanxious
I used to love SMU when i was younger, i love the campus, you have 2 great schools to choose from if you dont do CAP, personally i would go to SMU if you got a scholarship or something, you want have a problem getting a job from their, but then again it all depends on what you major in, but most schools have job centers or whatever so you should be good no matter what you choose

@ bumble

What I meant by “look down upon” is that UT treats CAP students as the lowest priority and even through they made the program they act like they don’t want any part of it so if you have a question about transfering AP credits or taking summer schools they will ignore you (the admin.)

People may hate me for this but UT has an elitism attitude and they think they offer the ebst education in Texas, which isn’t even true.

To make your decsions easier if, if you got into your major at another decent school you don’t mind going then don’t go to UT and do the CAP.

If you want to do liberal arts or natural sciences and UT is your dream place by all means go.

If none of the above applies, just go to another school and I guarantee you will be able to transfer to UT if you want , just keep a high GPA.

Kids go from community colleges to UT all the time so its not the end of the world, but personally this is how I feel UT = overrated as hell.

I found out yesterday that I got CAPd. I got into A&M but I honestly can’t bear the thought of being an aggie even though I plan on going there for vet school if everything goes according to planned.

Im gonna go to UTSA, unlike the other CAP schools at least UTSA is in a large-ish city…

And yeah, it’s going to be REALLY difficult for you to transfer if you’re trying to get into McCombs regardless of what school you go to.

Has anybody heard of someone appealing their decision at UT and succeeding? jw
