From what I remember when I was a student, a few L&S majors were popular and one had to apply to declare them. Economics and Computer Science were the most well known ones. Now I see from the current L&S list of capped majors that Computer Science is no longer limited.

But I wonder what the reasons are for the popularity of some of the other capped majors.

Economics -- back then, it seemed to be a second choice for intended Business Administration majors.

Media Studies (Mass Communications) -- ?

Psychology -- ?

Public Health -- ?

Social Welfare -- ?

ORMS -- yes, sounds like business, but with a lot more math (e.g. Math 104 is a suggested course). Seems like an "L&S IEOR" major (analogous to L&S Computer Science in relation to EECS), but I do not recall IEOR being that popular a major among those in the College of Engineering.

Would any current student be able to say why these particular L&S majors, as opposed to all of the other ones, would be popular enough to have to be capped?
