ok so i got rejected from the honors college but was still rewarded the McKissick scholarship. I applied pre-international business, which means i now do not have my application waived. if anyone of you now goes to south carolina, can you tell me how easy it is to get into the IB program from capstone? i got a letter saying i would need a 3.8 my first semester to have my application waived. i only have 10 days now to decide where im going to college and i really need to know my chances for getting a 3.8 because the scholarship will be very difficult to turn down.

We are OOS and are also very confused on this point. Eerything we’ve read makes it sound like Capstone = accepted to IB. When did you receive this letter?

According to website there are 2 ways Capstone scholars admitted to IB:

"Immediate Admission-
Granted to those students who checked International Business (IB) major box on their USC application and:
•Are admitted into the Capstone Scholars Program AND have at least a 1360 SAT or 31 ACT

Capstone Provisional Admission-
Granted to those students who checked IB major on their USC admission application and:
•Do not have at least a 1360 SAT or 31 ACT
•Are admitted into the Capstone Scholars Program
•Once at USC, •Achieve at least a 3.8 USC GPA on 30 hours or more at USC
•Completed at least two college courses in Arabic, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, or Russian
•Commit to meeting the advanced foreign language requirement in this language
Students who meet these qualifications do not compete with other applicants. They are admitted directly into the major based on the criteria above."

Based on this it looks like SAT/ACT determines whether direct or provisional. If you have more questions, call Capstone.

oh goodness gracious ok thank you so much! i did very well on writing but not well on math (reaaaaaally dragged me down). i did take the ACT but took it simply because i was curious. i still got a 31 but could have done far better had i spent the same amount studying for the ACT as i did for the SAT. put simply, i just didn’t bother sending it in. do you think if i called and inquired it would change anything aka maybe they would just accept me via immediate action?

^^I would call and talk to someone. Maybe it will save you some stress to get in by scores.

I would definitely call! Since you haven’t enrolled yet and you checked IB on your application, I would think that you would qualify under direct admit. You’ve already taken the test. Just send it in.

With that being said, you’re technically supposed to send in all ACT and SAT scores with your application to USC, so they might not let you, but I’d definitely call and ask.

Thanks, SCMom, we missed that on the website and will go back for a more thorough read now. :)

I’m a capstone and IB freshman this year! They have said they are majorly changing the pre admitted status for Capstone and IB, but I would call the capstone office and double check.

And a 3.8 gpa is not very difficult to obtain early on if you can manage your time well, don’t go out 5+ times a week, and choose classes (professors) wisely.
