I’m from Texas and I’m going to be at Capstone. I went to BCS Championship Game (as a Texas fan) and noticed how preppy the attire was for Alabama fans. I wanted to know what the attire was going to be like at Capstone.

Wear what you feel comfortable in. Very few events will ever require dressing up, and even that will be business casual most of the time. Generally you can even wear stuff from other colleges, but wearing all your Texas stuff this Saturday is not recommended for obvious reasons.

Thanks, and yeah I won’t be wearing any UT clothing…haha. This brings me to another point, can someone explain to me the whole culture of dressing up for football games and who does it and why?

Thanks for this post. Is a polo and khakis okay? Not name brand polo, just from a department store. Are good tennis shoes okay, or does son have to wear his black dress shoes? Keeping in mind that it’s supposed to rain, don’t want to wear expensive shoes that day. A jacket with a hood is okay?

The CSD site says “Students, you will be doing lots of walking. We suggest that you wear casual clothing, comfortable walking shoes, and a coat or jacket. Depending on the forecast, an umbrella or raincoat may come in handy.”

My D will be wearing jeans, a nice shirt, either Sperry’s or her Simple Shoes (especially since she just had knee surgery 3 weeks ago.) We realized today that her rain jacket doesn’t fit and we’re scrambling to find a new one, since it is supposed to rain on Saturday and she doesn’t want to deal with an umbrella while walking across campus or while in the stadium.

Now if she gets invited to interview for UHF, obviously she’ll kick it up quite a few notches If I remember the thread from last year correctly, there are a few hundred kids at CSD. When we were at the Honors event back in November most the kids were pretty casual, but not sloppy.

On CSD, UA is trying to impress the student. Like the website says, dress in what is comfortable, but presentable. Montegut, what you described is perfectly fine. I think I wore nice jeans, a dri-fit polo, and tennis shoes. If you were already a big UA fan, you could wear all your UA clothes (you can actually get some dressy clothes with the script A, not to mention the long houndstooth coats).

Many people (mostly Greeks, but GDI’s do too) dress up in the South when they go to football games because they go to be seen and it’s viewed as polite, some are also on dates. It’s just another way to support your school. As i mentioned above, lots of nicer clothes are made with UA logos on them. I see a lot of guys wearing shorts or pants with the script A embroidered all over, an Elephantwear dress shirt, boat shoes, and sunglasses (on a croakie). It’s a style many like, but a UA t-shirt shaker (mini pom pom) seems to be the popular choice. It is really easy to spend a lot of money on UA clothing, so you might end up wearing more UA stuff to games than you originally planned.

The only times Bama boys wear dress shoes is when they have to wear a suit - like for a job interview or for a major class presentation.

Note to others…some profs require/request that students dress up for major presentations. Such as, my son has to wear a suit for his CBH presentations. My other son has had to wear a suit for an engineering presentation.

Other colleges probably do that, too. So, make sure your student has one “professional” outfit when they go to college.

For CS Day… khaki pants are fine, regular polos are fine, tennis shoes or Sperry’s are fine. Boys tend to wear either no-show socks or no socks at all. The girls dress cute in a variety of styles.

For school and games…Greeks and non Greeks (GDIs) wear preppy clothes (polos/button down shirts/khakis) or just shorts and Bama gear. Boys do seem to wear either Sperry’s or Rainbows (or whatever brand of flip flops) during the school year - depending on the weather.
