Just looked at the calendar and realized that CSD is just over a week away! I know there’s quite a few of us who will be on campus that day & wondered if we could get a tally and maybe even figure out a way to recognize each other :)

My DD & I will be there; we’ll drive down to Birmingham on Friday evening & then drive to Tuscaloosa on Saturday morning. Hoping to drive through the downtown area this time as well, since we’ve never managed to do that yet.

We’ll be there! We decided to take a quick drive through campus the day ofter Christmas, from Chicago. Then, booked our flights for CSD. We will fly in to B’ham on Friday and drive to town that night. (Which reminds me…I have yet to Priceline a hotel and car.) We can’t wait to see campus buzzing and full of life. We would love to meet other CC’ers. We don’t fly back to Chicago until Sunday evening. Oh, one thing we know here is that it has to be fairly “warm” to snow. Hahaha!

*We can’t wait to see campus buzzing and full of life. *

LOL…you will see many Capstone kids, but don’t expect to see too many students on a Saturday morning, students notoriously sleep late on Saturdays.

That is also a 3 day weekend. Some kids will take advantage of that by going skiing or other weekend trips to warmer locations with friends - probably to escape the cold front we’re currently having.

I know that a group of UA kids are going out-of-town to build Habitat houses that weekend.

However, with all the Capstone kids on campus, it will be buzzin’

Reminder…

If you want Honors to arrange a campus tour for your child after CSDay ends (around 2 pm), you need to call Jessica or Jami Gates at 205-348-5522. Jessica was handling the arrangements, but she’s a student and may not be in the office yet, so Jami should be able to assist you in the meantime.

Be sure to visit Shelby and the Science and Engineering Complex. I don’t think it’s on any tour.

we’ll be there. i’m meeting son at about 8 am in front of conference center maybe we could all meet up outside, just need to figure out who is going to hold up the CC sign LOL

Just called to arrange for a tour after the CSD festivities and had to leave a message. I hope there are still availabilities. Also, mom, does UA usually clear out on the weekends? Or, do you suspect this since it is a long weekend?

The fact that it is a 3 day weekend will effect how many kids hang around. bama is not a suitcase school. Some kids work on weekends so they aren’t physically on campus. But the 3 day weekend will diminish numbers. That is not odd. My calif nephew is going skiing with his vandy roommate that weekend. College kids are famous for loading a few friends in a car and headind to the gulf or new orleans or wherever

^ We did our trip during University Days, didn’t want to wait until now, would love to be there but considering the weather and all glad we already got there. Hoping (like all of you) to get an invite to CBH or UFE :)

If you get invited to UFE, your airfare will be reimbursed. Your hotel and food will be provided. Your transportation to and from the airport will be provided.

Wow! I just booked our car for $18/day and the Wyngate hotel for $47 on Priceline. Now, if we can get down there without too much hassle through Chicago Midway security, all will be well. Thanks Sea_tide for the tip!

We’re staying overnight on Saturday. We will try to go to Mass Sunday at the church near campus, so maybe we’ll see familiar faces from the day before.

Mom, can you remind me again what Catholic church the kids tend to go to?

I just bought a red shirt and a red coat to wear to Capstone, so I’ll be showing the colors! Okay, the red coat was accidental, only one on sale in my size. My son loved the shirt, though!

Also, we should call Jami Gates to get a tour of honors housing or is there a special honors building as well?

It’s located south of University, between 5th and 4th Avenue. I think there is an entrance to the parking lot from University.

For other interested in visiting their worship places…There are many churches in the area. There is a Hillel on campus (Paul Bryant Drive), and a temple is being built next to it.

As for honors housing… I think CSDay includes a tour of Ridgecrest South, but I would also want to walk around Riverside and Lakeside (including Lakeside Dining), so I’d ask Jami about that. :)
