I’ll be there A question though…Is the housing tour honors or regular? I would think it would include honors but I wanted to make sure.

I believe you have a choice of either honors or non-honors housing to tour. I’d highly doubt UA would not show honors housing on CSD.

*
2:00 – 4:00 Tour of Student Recreation Center (Optional) and/or (See map in packet)
Tour of Residence Halls*

It doesn’t say, but since CSDay doesn’t include a campus tour for students (including honors housing), the Honors College is arranging for tours for students that want them (after 2 pm). I would ask Honors to include the Rec Center and Honors housing in the tour.

Right now, the school tends to use Ridgecrest South as the “show dorms” for honors, but I think Riverside should be looked at also. At least the Riverside community area should be seen and the pool area.

Have fun everyone! Sorry we can’t be there to join you. We definitely can’t afford it right now. And, we’re still waiting to see hear back from CA schools before my daughter makes her final decision. That won’t be until around April 1.

^^^

I was talking to my sis earlier. It is so frustrating that the Calif schools don’t let kids know until April-ish. My nephew had to have his apps in by - I think - Nov 30th.

But, he did get accepted to Santa Clara, so he knows he’s got one acceptance (but no merit or aid from SCU. )

Yeah, the CSUs and UCs application deadline is Nov.30, although the UCs extended theirs a couple days because of a computer freeze-up. Some kids already know they’re in at certain CSUs for some reason. Or UCs if they’re ELC. Two of my daughter’s friends have already been accepted to San Francisco State. And, of course, Cal Poly has ED. My daughter was accepted to the University of the Pacific, Early Action. $10,000 Regents Scholarship. Unfortunately, that will put a small dent in the tuition and fees. They have rolling admissions, as well. She’s supposed to hear back from USC by April 1. Same with Stanford.

Son and hubby will be there too.

Okay, stupid question, but what time zone is the campus in? We’re on central time here. Only reason I ask is because the posts are an hour later.

We’ll be arriving around midnight on Friday. Son has an activity after school Friday that he can’t miss, so we won’t even get on the road from NO until after five.

I want to make sure I’m clear on the time so we don’t oversleep, as it seems the capstone events start early.

Also, I received a confirmation card, but I don’t believe we got a map of the campus.

How will we know how to get to the Bryant Center? Isn’t that where we check in?

Just checked the confirmation card, and it’s a small map of the Bryant Center, but not sure how to get there from the hotel. Hopefully, the hotel can help me.

Will we get a map of the campus as part of the program?

central time here too montegut

just realized a way for us to all meet… son is driving up from his school the night before and staying with friends in dorm, so i plan on driving down that morning, will have to leave by 5:30am… so just look for the bleary eyed woman standing around looking for her son LOL

UA has many maps that they give away.

In the meantime…for campus maps…

[url=<a href=“Page Not Found | The University of Alabama”>Page Not Found | The University of Alabama]Interactive Campus Map - The University of Alabama/url

Bryant Conference Center is on the corner of 2nd Ave and Paul Bryant Drive

Montegut…which hotel are you staying? try to approach the campus from I59/I20. Take the McFarland Blvd offramp to University Blvd. This way you avoid construction that is going on to the west of campus.

Just a note…campus has a 6th St and a 6th Ave.

If you get on University off of McFarland, it is really easy to get to the Bryant Conference Center. You can also look for the signs to the Bryant Museum, as that is in the same direction.

As for the time difference with posts, CC allows you to set your time zone and if you observe daylight saving time. I think you have to check a box for the latter and that’s what’s causing the hour difference.

Thanks for the time clarification. I felt so stupid asking that, but did not want to be an hour late for Capstone.

We’re staying at the Fairfield.

Any tips on getting to the Bryant Center from there, as well as St. Francis of Assissi?

And mom, thanks so much for the tip on the 6th avenue and street. That would have definitely thrown us a curve.

Thanks for bumping the tours thread. I was going to look for that one before we left.

Safe travels, everyone, and hope to see y’all there.

You could go up Greensboro Avenue up to University Blvd, passing through downtown, but parts of that road don’t exactly go through the best areas. If you do that, getting to the Bryant Conference Center entails passing by much of campus, and the parking lot would be on your right before you hit the band’s practice field and Arby’s. You could get back on I20/I59 and take McFarland, or take Skyland Blvd to McFarland (right past the Ramada). I359 is also an option, but then you might as well take Greensboro and not completely confuse yourself.

Does the Bryant Conference Center have a street address that we can enter into our GPS system? We bought one of those before Christmas in anticipation of college visits. Out of towners, you can rent a car with one, for an additional 12 bucks a day. Believe me,they are worth it. When we drove from Chicago to Milwaukee to college visit a couple of years ago, we were able to key in restaurants and find places to eat along the way. So they’re not just for driving directions.

Also, SEA, when you say, passing by much of campus, do you mean we won’t see any of it, or do you mean we’ll be driving through the campus? We wouldn’t mind driving through the campus to get to the Bryant Center, unless you think that will get us lost and make us late for the program.

Come to think of it, probably the shortest distance from the hotel to the Bryant Center is best, since it starts early and we’ll need to find parking. We’re hoping to get a tour, so hopefully, we’ll get to see a lot of campus then.

*We’re staying at the Fairfield.

Any tips on getting to the Bryant Center from there, as well as St. Francis of Assissi?

And mom, thanks so much for the tip on the 6th avenue and street. That would have definitely thrown us a curve.*

I would definitely get back on I-59 and go east and then exit at McFarland (exit 73) and go north to University Drive exit. That exit is a clover-leaf and will turn you around onto University Dr. Now that you’re turned around, you’ll turn right onto University Drive. Travel west on University to 2nd Ave. Turn left onto 2nd Ave. The conference center is on the corner of 2nd Ave and Paul Bryant Blvd.

I wouldn’t go up Greensboro, because that won’t orient yourself to the stores & restaurants along McFarland Blvd.

The reason I recommend people go up McFarland is so they can see what’s available.

*St. Francis of Assisi Church?

[Interactive Campus Map - The University of Alabama](<a href=“Page Not Found | The University of Alabama”>Page Not Found | The University of Alabama)

St Francis is marked on the map. It’s south of University Blvd, on 5th Ave.

BTW…I don’t know why Bryce Hospital is showing as being where Moody Music Building is. Bryce Hospital is really off of Campus Drive.

You would be driving through campus in the opposite direction you would be going if you came from McFarland. I encourage taking McFarland, but I remember you thinking about taking the train another time. The station is along Greensboro Avenue. The address for the Bryant Conference Center is 240 Paul Bryant Drive Tuscaloosa, AL 35487. Note that many maps, possibly those on your GPS don’t realize that certain campus streets no longer exist or have been moved. That shouldn’t be a problem driving to the conference center however.

As a general note, Alabama is an easy place to navigate. If you have AAA, pick up the Alabama/Georgia map from them just in case or stop at the information desk in BHM. Everybody seems to have GPS these days, but printed directions and/or a map still work well.

There are two main ways to get into campus. I wouldn’t recommend going up Greensboro Avenue because frankly it’s a bit a run down part of the city.

Since you are staying at the Fairfield the fastest way to get to campus is to get on Interstate 359 northbound. 359 ends and turns into Lurleen Wallace Blvd in downtown Tuscaloosa. After passing six traffic lights, you’ll see University Boulevard at the 7th light. Your GPS will probably tell you turn right on Paul Bryant Drive, but ignore that because part of the Bryant Drive is closed due to stadium construction. Instead, turn right onto University Boulevard. This will give a good look at downtown Tuscaloosa, the Strip, and a good chuck of campus.

On campus you will pass the Quad. Take the a right turn at the second traffic light you see after you after you pass Denny Chimes (bell tower) on the Quad, onto Hackberry Lane. You will pass by the Catholic student center, I think. Even if you don’t see it from the street, it’s in that area. Keep going down Hackberry Lane. At the next traffic light, take a left unto Bryant Drive. Here you will see the campus hotel and Bryant Conference Center on your left. Various athletic facilities, including the Aquatic Center, the Coliseum and the baseball stadium will be on your right. At the first traffic light you see, take a left to access the BCC parking lot.

The other main way onto campus is to take the route mom2collegekids suggested. You’ll see more of the the city but not as much of the campus. Plus traffic on the McFarland is usually nightmarish.

Plus traffic on the McFarland is usually nightmarish.

I don’t think that the traffic on McFarland on a early Saturday morning will be “nightmarish”. Why would you think that?
