Capstone Summer Honors Program Follow-up

Follow-up on CSHP 2011:

Classes:
DD is loving all the new folks she’s meeting and getting to know around UA campus. The Honors Photography class (that she wasn’t thrilled about originally) has evolved into a time of day that she looks forward to. The Blackbelt Project (100 Lenses) has touched/inspired her to get more involved with the rural impoverishd areas of Alabama. The most difficult part of the class is “lugging that huge camera around in 100 degree weather.”

After arrival, DD (w/my assistance) talked to the “Counselors” (older Honors students) about the classes that she was assigned. She was uneasy with the choices. They talked with her briefly to find out some of her interest, took in consideration of former and future AP classes, and ultimately encouraged her to register for International Relations World Politics (PSC204) w/ Dr. Doug Gibler. She’s by far the youngest student in the class of 17 students.
DD has her first exam tomorrow in PSC204 (Dr. Gibler).

Socially:
Loves her roomies; one from Andulasia, AL and the other from Forsyth, GA. We’re from Indianapolis so they’re getting a kick out of each other’s dialect and social differences. We’re from a big city and they’re both from very small towns.
Has attended several “ice breakers”, movie night, pool party, etc to meet other students in CSHP.
Attended an Ice Cream Social where Dr. Witt made an appearance. She’s personally met many staff members of the Honors College. They have each made a point to welcome her and extend much kindness.
She doesn’t have her car on campus but one roomie does. They have been all over T-town for Sushi, Thai, and everything in between. They’ve been to Mugshots, Crimson Cafe, Yogurt Lab, Publix and many more.
She informed me last night that she had an epiphany…college is expensive and she needs more $$. HAHA
