So my DS got an email saying there is a "REQUIRED" Capstone welcome on Aug. 18 from noon to 1PM. Just exactly what do they do during the welcome session? Is this really a "requirement?"

Probably. Many majors have some kind of welcome reception during Welcome Week, some are more informal. However, for instance, honors college has a mandatory “orientation” meeting during welcome week that is several hours long, usually on Monday or Tuesday. It’s likely the first chance for incoming Capstone class to get the entire group together, maybe take picture, meet everyone face to face, and go over upcoming events, etc.

Not sure why you wouldn’t want to be there to be in on all information since only for an hour and that’s the kind of stuff that USC does during Welcome Week, but I’m sure if there is real conflict you can contact the program and see.

Thank you SCmom12… It’s my son that needs to attend. There is a conflict with the timing, he is ROTC and that orientation goes until the evening of the Capstone welcome. He sent out an email to Capstone but I am not sure what the response was. I think from what my son says the 1 hour is a big get together and then they break out to their specific study area. What I do know is unless the ROTC has it on the schedule there will be no getting away and he will miss the welcome session of Capstone.

I use this forum because my son has done all this on his own so far. At the very best I purchased a plane ticket, filled out the healthcare waiver, and take in whatever he feeds me. Having parents like yourself feed the info helps with whatever info he does not feed.
