Capstone

Are notifications out for the Capstone program yet?

My daughter is still awaiting word. I was told via email from Capstone Scholars that USC Admissions makes the decision and sends out notifications in late February/ early March. Another email received from USC Admissions states that notification will be 'some time' in March. So expect word between 2 - 6 weeks.

Does anyone know the stats to get in? I know I'm a long shot, but there is alway hope.

They have historically been (old) SATs above 1250 or 1300 (can't remember) and GPAs above 3.5 as I recall but the number of high achieving students applying and matriculating has risen each year since the Capstone program began and the bar has risen with it.

Don't have that gpa. Sigh. Oh well.

Has anyone received acceptance into the Capstone yet?

Still waiting here as well - ditto for financial aid letter which I assume will come after scholarship notifications?

Waiting for the money part is worse than waiting for acceptances.

do all capstone scholars live in capstone?

You're not required to live in Capstone, but are eligible to if you choose. It's a pretty nice dorm with ensuite bathroom and large closets. I would recommend it! The only downside was the number of stairs when there is a fire drill.
Good luck to all waiting to hear - I remember how hard it was for my daughter to wait because it was going to be the final deciding factor in her choice!

On the Capstone web page there is a message that Capstone invitations will be mailed on March 21st.

i got my capstone invitation today (i live in columbia).

My D got her capstone invitation today (we live in greenville).

I didn't realize that I was able to apply to this and had a shot of getting in, is it possible to apply after or during freshman year or something?

Don't worry JR - Capstone does not have an application. It is an invitation based on your university application, so you didn't miss applying. It looks like the posters above are all in SC, so maybe you will still hear something. Good luck!

My son got the Capstone invitation today. I think this means we will definitely take another look at SC, and go to scholars day!

kevinsmom
good timing on their part since its convincing you to take another look
let us know how the visit turns out!

Capstone was the thing that took my D over the top while making her decision. From the time of our campus visit the previous summer, USC was VERY high on her list but getting into Honors at several other schools, nice merit money at several other schools and getting admitted to UGA in January really threw her (and us) into a quandary. USC was offering a tremendous financial package and they had the very strong (top) program in the major she wanted but the decision wasn't fully clear until she got the Capstone letter.

To be truthful, I was the last holdout and was the reason we opted to stay through Monday after Scholar's Day. I wanted for all of us to see the campus in action on a real school day and for her to attend a few classes before I was ready to sign off on the decision.

I think attending Scholar's Day will be money well spent for you....good luck!

Has anyone one from out of state heard about capstone?

Update on capstone -- all notifications have been mailed
Per SC admissions rep: cutoff this year 1250 SAT and 3.75 weighted GPA

meco, we are from MA and my son got the Capstone....
