Car 1st year

Hey im going to be an incoming freshman here at ucr. I live 6 hours away from riverside so i was wondering if its a good idea to bring a car my first year?

yeah bring it if you can afford it. Though riverside is close to everything there aint much to do in Rside after rush week. With a car you could go to morongo, the beach, the drive in thearter across town and so on

Jason, how much of a drag would it be not to have a car?
Do many have bikes on campus?

Just make friends with someone that has a car!

I remember my freshman year, everyones bike seats would get jacked.

Here’s an advice !!!
Stay away from Lot 30 !! =/

My left tire got stabbed during the summer orientation. Window on the driver side got shattered at the end of fall quarter. I’m surprised nothing has happened so far this quarter but let’s not jinx it…lol.

Try to avoid the “rush hours” if you’re gonna park there… It’s usually full from 11:00 - 1:00.

@petiza: I don’t have a car or a bike here in R’side. My friends and I usually take the bus to everywhere. lol. Even though it takes a while to get to a place (like the Tyler Mall), the whole point of the trip is to experience it with friends.

Just be friends with people with cars and get a ride from them, if you don’t like the bus. xD That’s what I do. haha.

I’ve seen bikes without tires that were locked onto the bike racks. I’m pretty sure people steal tires. @.@;

having a car here is definitely better than not having a car. it’s just much more convenient. you don’t NEED to have one, but if you can afford to bring it… i don’t see why not.

@paulngo90 - wow someone must really hate you. nothing has happened to my car… yet. lol. D:

Car if you can afford it…not afford the car itself, but afford to park it since permits are required (unless you live off campus with parking provided, but any campus parking requires permits

A really cool addition this year, zipcars!
[Zipcar: University of California, Riverside](UCR Car Sharing | Zipcar at University of California, Riverside)

They are conveniently parked near the resident halls too. Its a nice alternative for students who don’t have cars…

petiza: well it aint that bad since you can take to trolley to the UV but it highly recommended. Just make friends with someone with a car and ya’ll be good.

I definitely can’t afford a car so I guess I’ll just have to befriend all the car-owners at UCR!
I visited last summer and saw lots of skateboards and Razors.
But to go off-campus, I’ll just have to rely on my smiling countenance!!

plus ypu get to ride the bus for free. My friend to the RTA to the MolVal mall
