Magnets from both UG schools and decal (not on window) for D2’s grad school. To be fair, one magnet is for school that we all went to at one time or another. H & I - both undergrad and grad/law, D1 - grad, and D2-undergrad.
As soon as the college deposit check was sent, the sticker went on my car. It has generated a lot of positive comments from people at the grocery store parking lot, much to the delight of our D. Alumni spirit is mighty strong with D’s school!
Around here (Houston area) people LOVE school spirit gear. One neighbor who was over 80 still faithfully bought a new TCU decal for her brand-new car, and her two children had graduated from TCU over 30 years before. And of course UT and TAMU logos are everywhere. Cars, clothing, yard ornaments, flags, rocking chairs on the front porches (no, I’m not kidding). Then there’s all the high school support decals and yard signs. My son won’t start college until fall 2018 but he’s already accepted to his first choice (UT Dallas) and once he makes his official choice he’ll probably want a car decal on his car, one each on my husband’s and my cars, and a small yard flag.
I got the DD1 and DD2, undergradute and the DD1 Graduate school decals!
Just wanted to say thanks to @TheGreyKing for posting about the decals being illegal on windshields - I had no idea!!
I have one for each of my two kid’s schools in lower corners of rear windshield. Where I live its very very common to see these. Don’t see many magnets where we are bc people steal them and I have found they scratch the paint.
We are guilty as well! Decals and magnets.
The magnets also come off at the carwash. The one I went to had a board with all the magnets that had fallen off and you could just take one if you’d lost one. Mostly the local high schools.
LOL! @traveler98 Yes, Houston does love its school gear. There is a whole UT store in the Uptown Park shopping district for UTexas.
School/state/sports team decals, clothing et al are nice when people are far from home. It is a reason to strike up a conversation for me her in Florida when I see any from my part of the country- so many transplants here. It is also fun to remind someone of who beat their team in that Super Bowl eons ago…
Never did decals on our cars. Have occasionally been tempted to get license plate holders but resisted. I have actually run into people with stuff when they had never had an affiliation with a school or state team et al. Fun to find sometimes tenuous links- a not close relative is from there… We live in an area with many car license plates from all over parked in the local grocery store lot- even the west coast- for those recently new to FL.
I never thought of myself as being that kind of person, but I am. Decal of D’s college, and magnet of kids’ high school, both on our beat-up SUV. But my hubby won’t allow anything on the nice car:-)
I personally don’t. I have a kid in college and a kid who dropped out of college and it’s occurred to me that i could put a sticker for the one’s college and a sticker for the other’s rock band or the restaurant he manages on my car, but really not worth doing. My car is new anyway, still pretty pristine
Waiting for D18 to sign on the dotted and will then get personalized license plate holder with both kids schools. I figure that way, if I get a new car or ,God forbid, an accident, it will be able to go with me.
You bet! Kids’ car (shared) has each of their schools on it and both H and I have one for each of their schools with the"Mom" and the “Dad” below the logo . . . cheesy yes, but we love it. H even used to have a “Boy Scout” dad one, lol. Ironically, I always found the family stick figure ones to be corny but we love school spirit - shirts, hoodies, hats, all good fun!
No decals (didn’t realize they were illegal), no magnets, but I do have tee shirts from everyone’s college and grad school. I look very intellectual at the gym.
Ds’ school sent a decal, and it is deep in the drawer somewhere. I do have a school hat, and my iPad’s screensaver is a school picture.
This thread reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw growing up in Texas in the 1970s - “My money and my daughter go to Baylor”
I’m sure that other schools had then, I just remember the Baylor one. I guess it made quite an impression on me!
Debating this one. I have decals for both kids’ schools on my old car, which we still own, but I now have a new one with no decals. D has graduated, but is headed to [snooty pretentious U] for grad school. Do I put her brother’s LAC decal on the car along with her grad school, or do I just go with her undergrad LAC decal? Or no decals at all? Or some political message? So many first world choices!
DD gave me a decal to let me know her final college decision. I put it on my bumper the next day.
What is this “new car” of which you all speak? After two rounds of private high school tuition and now being a two time loser of the college tuition game, my 2010 vehicle needs to go quite a few more miles. Although admittedly my wife did get a new car last year before the second college tuition started sucking even more blood from the stone. Come to think of it, I don’t think she has any stickers on it.
Yes. Only on my old car. Magnet for D1’s UG, and sticker for D2’s UG. Both went/go to big public flaghsips so it almost feels like a sports team sticker.
If the kids went to elite privates, I probably would not opt to put on a sticker or magnet on the car.
