I was wondering if freshman are allowed cars on campus. I will be dorming on livingston (most likely) and need a car as I am a volunteer firefighter/EMT and will continue to respond to calls from Rutgers. Do freshman have any restrictions regarding parking on campus?

Thanks

Not that I am aware of. I live on Busch and had no problem getting a parking permit. You do, however, get assigned a Resident permit for the campus you live on. For example, since you will be dorming on Livingston, you will get a Livingston Resident permit which allows you to only park in certain lots from (I think) 8AM - 6PM. Here’s a list of where you can park with each permit and what the restrictions are: [Department of Transportation Services | Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey](<a href=“Parking & Transportation Services | Institutional Planning and Operations”>Parking & Transportation Services | Institutional Planning and Operations)

Yes actually you are allowed cars. The 09-10 school year they started allowing that. You’ll just have to fork over a couple hundred dollars but there should be a parking lot near/ in front of whatever dorm you end up in that you’ll be able to keep it in.
