Yea so I'm a junior and NYU has been my dream school #1 forever , but i was wondering...do i really need a car there? I dont have one yet, but my parents will allow me to buy one with my own money next year as a senior, i dont know if i really should if NYU wont require a car. I mean i get the whole public transoprtation for free to the school, but what about going like around NYC? Do you guys do that? idk.

hum...i really don't think u need a car in the city...parking prices are OUTRAGEOUS. and simply driving in the city is clumsy. that's just my take

Not only is it possible to go to NYU without a car; it's easier without one. Parking spaces cost several hundred dollars a month, otherwise you'll be waking up early in the morning to make it to your car before the sweepers come for alternate side of the street parking. Have you ever visited NYU? Public transportation in NYC is quick, cheap, and all over the place.

dont bring a car! i have gotten my car towed twice and had to pay $500 to get it out when parked improperly. which is very easy to do considering they have crazy parking schedules!

public transportation is not free. however, it is MUCH MUCH cheaper than driving.

the subway will get u anywhere you want in minutes

I think what toyotacamry means is that the subways/MTA buses aren't free; the NYU buses are (but will only take you to NYU buildings).

Don't bring a car. Save your money so you can have a blast at NYU.

why would you bring a car? its new york city

Do NOT bring a car. Driving here's a nightmare, and gas is probably outrageously expensive as is parking.

Even Donald Trump has his cars registered in New Jersey. That should tell you how ridiculous the parking situation is in Manhattan.

If you are living in Manhattan you should not get a car. Even if you don't mind paying $400 per month to keep it in a garage, it will be hard to drive it places, 1 because of traffic and 2 becuase then you have to park when you get there.

I live in Queens and do have a car, however I only use it to drive around Queens and to drive in to Manhattan when I know I will be on campus late. It usually takes me at least an hour to find a spot, and sometimes I have to pay to park it in a garage. The daily rate around NYU is about $13.00 for 12 hours if you show your NYU ID.

Gas today for low grade is $3.27 per gallon in Queens, so you can compare it to where you live for an idea of how much higher or lower it is in NY.
