Most likely you will get a refund as long as you never changed your witholding amount to make it less then they were taking out. If this is there estimate then you should receive a refund.

cool, fat refund check to look forward to.

Why? I am pretty sure I write better than anyone else on here.

How much do you think is a reasonable price to charge to edit all three UC personal statements (about 1,000 words)? And by 'edit' I just don't mean just giving cursory comments but really tearing the essays up to make the best possible essays out of them (i.e. eliminating verboseness to improve concision, rephrasing sentences, restructuring ideas so the piece flows, suggesting better more powerful word choices, cutting out cliches and replacing with fresher approaches...)

Since you are just starting this "business", you shouldn't be too heavy on the price. Some of the professional editing services charged as low as $5 per page (page = 250 to 300 words) while some charged as high as $100 per page. So it really varies. You'd have to vary your price on the time frame and how "thoroughly" you want the essay to be looked over.

Example:

Overnight Editing + MOST thoroughly edited (spelling, grammar, sentence structure, style, word choice, comments/critics, etc.) = $10/page

5 DAY TIME FRAME + MINIMUM editing (spelling and grammar ONLY) = $3/page

But really, most of the students dont have much money to spend their money on "non-credential editor" from an online forum (not to insult you or anything, but there are professional essay editors out there with good built-up reputation that charge just as low), so you might as well start off with really cheap price ($5 maximum per page), and as your build up your repuation and the demand increases, you should start increasing your price to perhaps $10 per page, or even $15.

Subjecttochange- ok....

yeah I agree to smart off small. If you aren't making that much there is always the option of not reporting it.......I think your strength is that you are doing a specific area and also that you did it for yourself. Like you said, just start out with friends and people around here who need some help and see if it continues to grow. Simple.
