jerkey, dried mango, garlands and window clings for seasonal decoration, tea, santa hat, burned a mix CD, wool socks, hand made candy canes, dark chocolate covered pretzles, advent calendar

LBowie–for zucchini/banana bread I would wrap it in foil and then in a zip lock bag and send it 2 day delivery. It should be fine if you do that.

Univ of Roch did have a finals care package mailing that came. I thought the choice were things my son would eat so I purchased it. Not sure if I would do it every year but for this first one it seemed fun.

My son’s college sold care packages too, but it was never stuff I thought he’d like, plus there was a little supermarket 2 blocks from campus, so I only sent homemade stuff. I’d send things Monday morning and he’d usually have them by Wed. Ginger cookies keep really well.

My D’s college had a finals care package offering that was a fundraiser for a campus group. The contents seemed reasonable and we thought she might like it. It was delivered to her this week and she was thrilled. More successful than I expected. I think it was mostly the “thinking of you” impact that went over big. Because she’s only a couple of hours away she’s come home on quite a few weekends and we hadn’t previously sent a care package, naturally. So getting one was an exciting change of pace for her.

Thank you for the “mom’s stress tabs” idea! I’m going to do the same thing.

^^ was about to type the same! Love the M&Ms and you can do it with jelly beans too! My son is still a senior but I can’t wait to start sending packages! And fingers crossed he’ll be playing football so he can share with the team…FUN!

Things I usually include:

–Those citrus lozenges with extra vitamin C to help with all the stress on his immune system

–a pack of Minute Main orange juice boxes, ditto.

–an iTunes card so he can download some new music to study by.

–a Starbucks card so he can study elsewhere for a change of scenery, and so he can afford some primo caffeine.

–a stupid toy or two, like a trashcan basket ball net or some such

–a chapstick as it’s getting to the season where his lips are always painfully chapped

–packets of different flavors of hot chocolate and a bag of marshmallows–and hershey bars and graham crackers for microwave s’mores

–a can of salted cashews, a bag of M&Ms, a bag of dried cranberries, and a box of raisins so he can make his favorite trail mix.

–a couple of bottles of 5 Hour Energy for emergencies ( last year he had a presentation and a paper on Tuesday, a final exam and a group presentation on Wednesday, a final exam and a paper due on Thursday, and an exam and group project on Friday. And a take home exam, distributed the previous Thursday, due on the Monday before all of this other fun final time activity.

This was his personal nightmare. He survived, but when he came home, he was sick the first ten days of his vacation.

Forgot to include-- I usually also send a new cozy hat (in something like polarfleece) and gloves…those walks to and from the exams in the cold are so depressing.

I made mini loaves of zucchini bread and sent them to my D. I wrapped them in plastic, then in foil, then put those in ziplock bags. By sending four mini-loaves, she was able to put 3 in the freezer and eat one right away. She seems pretty happy about those and they were fine when she got them two days later :)

Thanks, BarnardMom!!

Softball team has a fundraiser with lots of snacks and drinks plus we can include a note. One semester my son had a suitemate with the same first name. Naturally he opened the door and accepted his roomie’s care package and ate most of it thinking we had sent it to him. When we told him we hadn’t sent it, he apologized to his roommate.

We had to send a care package to his roommate the following semester when my son did study abroad.
