care packages

Exam week is approaching; I just mail-ordered brownies for D from her favorite food emporium.

Are their any companies or local Noho stored that parents can rec for care packages - - or companies/stores that you students give high marks?

Thanks.

Don't know about the other classes but the 2008 Class every year has had a student-run Care Package system that you could order. This year they actually had there options, something like a $25, a $35, and a vegetarian or some such...I forget what the third option was.

I guess I had thought this was a school-wide operation, maybe it's only the 2008 class. We got a mailing (not well designed) about two weeks ago on it.

Last year they gave you a discount if you ordered for Fall & Spring at the same time, they didn't present that option this year.

None of which prevents you from putting together your own care package, of course.

TheDad, each class operates them individually. I assume that the first-year class offered them this year, but I'm not a first-year parent so I haven't received any information about them.

Hopefully the 08 ones are good this year - one of my friends is on class cabinet and she promised they would be.

Yes, we did receive something from '11. Can't recall why we didn't order, probably just not the right mix of stuff for D.

I don't know of any stores in Noho that put togehter care packages for students, I've never heard of such a thing happening. Most students either get their care packages from their class (they're pretty good packages, I've always enjoyed mine) or parents assemble packages personally and mail them in. Maybe there's a company in your hometown that makes care packages you could send to your daughter, but I don't think there are any in Noho.

I use Amazon. They've got great cookies and brownies which D enjoys mightlily and shares with her house. When I asked her about the class packages, she said she'd rather have more brownies.

I ordered my daughter some fruit from the Whole Foods near Amherst recently when she wasn't feeling well. They will give you the name and number for a local delivery service. As I recall, the delivery fee was $10 plus a certain percentage of the cost of the fruit. She loved it. The general number is 413-586-9932.

Atkins Farms (in Amherst I believe) has a terrific care package for students that you can customize. Their baked goods, cider, and fudge are wonderful. They will either deliver it to the house or post office box. The people there are extremely helpful and friendly. I have ordered it along with the 08 care package and my daughter has enjoyed them both.

Thanks for the additional suggestions. Being able to order something locally is more appealing to me than the time & $$ for shipping across country.

TheDad...I was also a bit surprised when I didn't see an option for both semesters. I guess they didn't feel the need to have a fundraiser at that point, but the care package still would have been nice.

State Street Fruit Store and Serio's market in noho will both do fruit baskets and other care packages, I believe.

"Best one yet" was the evaluation of the 08 care package from my daughter. It seems that the distribution is going as smoothly as possible after the erroneous email to ALL the seniors to come pick up the packages.

I agree with your D, moodle. My friend on class cabinet was right about them being much better this year. :)
