Care to chance me please?

Mechanical Engineering

Unweighted GPA: 3.8
Weighted GPA: 3.93
UC GPA: 3.92

ACT: 32
34 Math 34 Reading 31 Science 29 English

3 APs junior year and 2 APs senior year. My school is new so we don't have many AP courses yet. Our school is ranked very high already (API is in the 890s).

Class rank: 59/302 :( very smart kids here.

Good ECs. I didn't have a huge variety but I spent a lot of time in each and they related to my major.

Great essays! Showed my passion for engineering and music.

In state.

I'll chance you all!

Current UCSB freshman here. The ACT looks good, GPA doesn’t look too bad. It would be nice to see what AP classes and scores, as well as if you took any honors classes as well (would help to make a better estimate overall). And don’t care about the whole class rank thing, no one cares about that at all at a public school (biggest BS thing ever, my school didn’t have class rank at all). And that’s really good your EC’s are concentrated and related to your major if that is the case; quality is in fact greater than quantity in this case, especially since you spent good time in them. I’d personally say there’s a good shot youre in, but you really never know with college admissions overall these days. UCSB doesn’t seem to have any ridiculous application phenomenons as opposed to other schools (such as UCSD at least last year for me). So all in all, chances are good.

Last year I took APUSH (4) AP Stats (4) and AP Env (5). This year I am taking AP Calc and AP Gov.

Thanks for your input!

Anyone elseeee? :)

Low match.

You applied for colleges just this past fall?

Low match, wow, I figured engineering would be much more difficult to get into! And yes, last November.

Haha.

Keep this in mind when you get your admission letters: Admissions in the UCI/UCD/UCSB level are all very highly unpredictable.

Keep that in mind.

So I’ve heard. My only safety is UCSC. So hopefully I get in there!

Bump!

Match. Grades and tests scores are right on par and then some. I see you’re taking Calculus, that’s a good thing. Don’t even sweat about the whole class rank thing, like Manlaar said, it’s all BS. My class rank was in the 35th percentile, my highest math was Alg 2, and I still got in. Granted, I did have some good EC’s and I applied as undeclared

Sweet, thanks for the input!

Although mechanical engineering is one of the toughest majors to get into at ucsb, i think you’ll get in. i was admitted with a 3.65 uc gpa and a 2010 SAT, and you obviously have much better statistics than i do. :P

@tapioo thank you! What year were you admitted?

you’re welcome! i was admitted for the upcoming fall quarter, so that’s why i think you have a good shot!

I’d be pretty shocked if you didn’t get in! Good luck! :)

Thanks! I was rejected from cal poly for the same major, which got me questioning my chances here  ucsb is my 2nd choice school!

In case this lightens up your mood blingdoop. . .

-When I was your age, I got my admission letters. Rejected from both Cal Polys (lol), waitlisted at Long Beach, accepted at Davis and Santa Barbara, and rejected from UCI.

It’s a roll of a goddamn die. Everything. Random.

Chin up high, young jedi!

Holy crap that is crazy. Wow. Yeah I know people who were rejected from SLO and accepted at Cal. Ridiculous.
