Career Change to IT...Need Advice.

Dear All,

I'm currently an Business Admin Major (Accounting/Information Systems concentration) at CSUF. I'm scheduled to graduate in Dec 2012.

I realized during my upper division Accounting courses that I definitely don't see myself being intrigued in the profession. I definitely don't mind doing something like IT auditing or ERP implementation.

I've heard that IS is frowned upon in the IT world and that Computer Science is the way to go. I'm hoping to add IT certifications on the side while completing my degree to help strengthen my resume upon graduation.

Based on the above, here are my questions for you guys

1) What IT certifications are the most highly respected in the IT industry?

2) Will the Accounting background help me in the IT field at all?

My ultimate goal is to get a position with an IT company doing web development.

Would be glad if somebody answered this, my questions are similar to the OP’s

well, its true that IS is frowned upon IT. You can do something which is going latest in the industry. Companies are looking out for people who have knowledge in SAP. ERP is equally in demand in the industry.

Why is IS frowned upon in the IT field?
