Hi all...Im new to CC and this is my first time posting a question. Im a junior at Devry studying a B.S. in Biomedical Engineering Technology (BMET). My passion is to work in the R&D field of BME and I think I got started on the wrong foot. From what Ive read BMETs focus mainly on the maintence of biomedical equipment, which is not what I want to do. If I would have known this I would have picked a different school and program. Anyways...Ive been doing some research about BMEs and it seems that now a Bachelors is not enough because it is too broad of a field. To be more valuable they are suggesting that you specialize in an area of biomedical engineering. After I finish with Devry I plan on attending graduate school and if necessary work on my Phd. So did I make it harder for me by attending Devry for BMET first? One good thing is that it is a Bachelors degree. I would like to specialize in bioinstrumentation, biomedical imaging, neural engineering or biomechanics. I know that these fall under either Electrical, Electronics or Mechanical Engineering. In an article that I read it said to first do your undergrad work in one of the above mentioned Engineering fields and then do your grad work in biomedical engineering. Does anybody think that its necessary to be in that order? So my plan so far is graduate Devry, Spr. 2010, do a summer internship, and then start on my graduate work in either Biomedical Engineering or Electrical Engineering. Im still trying to get my plan together and any comments and suggestions would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.
