So i want to go to medical school and i know its early and i need to focus on juss getting into med school, but i am doing all my research on possible specialties i am considering the first in neurosurgery, 2 Is plastics and 3. is trama i know i want to be a surgeon for sure, but i digress. i want to know what a career in plastic sugery is really like, compared to tv shows i know that shows tend to show a fantasy rather than reality ( for instance nip/tuck) but i want to know is plastic surgery really as glamorous as tv depicts, are there aspects of the career that are like tv shows, do these types of surgeons really lead a pretty good sexual life (relationship life) i want somebody to tell me the realities of being a plastic surgeon, keep in mind if its not a glamorous as tv makes it seem i really dont care i juss want to know the reality.

The reality of plastic & reconstructive surgery is that most of your surgical patients will be burn victims, cancer victims (remediation after often disfiguring cancer surgery), victimsof violence (gunshots, knifing, bombs, acid-attacks) or MVAs, and individuals with birth defects. The beauty biz is mostly a small segment of plastic & reconstructive surgery.

If you look at TV doctors (like Doctor 90210), you should note that often these docs are not board certified plastic surgeons. (IIRC DR. 90210 is actually a OB/Gyn.)

The plain truth is that the life of plastic surgeon is like that of most other surgeons–long hours, mandatory on-calls plus plastic surgeons are dealing with often gruesome/disfiguring injuries. It takes a lot of compassion.

Your sex life isn’t going be substantially erent from that of any other type of physician. (No, beautiful women --or men-- will not be throwing themselves at you.)

Also it’s a reportable ethics violation to get sexually involved with a patient. You could lose your medical license over it.
