Career Management Center, Internships, and Graduate Recruitment

Hello Tulane Family!

I am writing to see if anyone has any knowledge about the strengths or weaknesses of the Career Management Center at Tulane University. More specifically, how good are they in bringing recruiters and students together in searching for and securing summer internships and jobs after graduation? I know that at a lot of bigger research-based schools they really don't give a damn about what undergrads do after they graduate. They just call for alumni donations. That has been my experience anyways.

I am planning on studying finance and mathematical economics, and I know that if you don't go to a so-called "target" school, you are pretty much screwed in the field of finance. Well, that's what I have heard through the grapevine. Any comments and insights anyone may have will be greatly appreciated!

Cheers!

You might want to send a PM to Benetode on this topic, although he will probably see this anyway. I hope so because it would be good for all to see his answers. He is very knowledgable on these issues.

TulaneTransfer, you might find this interesting… I was just watching the Tulane YOUniversity tour last night which features several students but one in particular talking about the Finance Department. In it, it also touches upon jobs post-Tulane and states that undergrads who use the Career Services Center are guaranteed one internship opportunity and 2 job offers by the time they graduate - I would assume that’s for all majors. Video was made at the end of 2008 so I’m wondering if that “guarantee” is still the case in this economy. Great video and info if you haven’t seen it. You can view it through the Tulane website (I have been able to click on before but for some reason is now not working for me) [Tulane Admission: Tulane and YOUniversity](http://admission.tulane.edu/livecontent/news/26-tulane-and-youniversity.html) or directly through YOUniversity [YOUniversityTV: College Video Tours](http://www.youniversitytv.com/youlife/cvt_outside_link.html?collegeuuid=272)
