Hi Parents!

I am at a fork in the road to either start my career or to pursue more education and, while I still have no idea what I want to do in the long run, a frequent bit of advice I've been given is something like: "don't worry about it, just choose something and take advantage of the opportunities that come up". Or "do what you love, and the money/opportunities/whatever will come."

The thing is, from my experience so far, opportunities don't just show up. My impression of the world is that folks pursue a certain goal and come up a little short of the ideal expectations.

What have your experiences been like?

TIA.

Depends- what career? Business grad schools seem to look for work experience. You will not do well if you have no reason/motivation, grad schools want you to have a reason to attend. Presuming you are getting a bachelors degree soon, check your school's resources.

Engineering (electrical & computer). Grad schools just look for what possible areas you want to get into. It's just a matter of "I'm interested in ____ or ____" on the personal statement. There are quite a few students in grad school who don't know exactly what they want to do. I'm about to get my MS.

I meant to ask in general terms; looking back on your careers, have the progression and opportunities been unexpected?
