So in the fall I'm going to start my freshman year. Right now, I'm "technically" majoring in civil engineering (because I got a $2k scholarship out of it), but I'm planning on changing that sometime. I really don't think I'll stick with engineering, and even if I did, I doubt I'd be able to survive it all. So what I'm planning on doing is switching to a biology major, and that's where I run into problems.

I know biology isn't a great major to pick, but I was actually planning on trying to get into biology education at the high school level, or if possible as a research assistant kinda thing. I don't care about the low pay, amount of work argument, but I was concerned about the career outlook for science teachers. Eventually, I want to become a teacher in say, Australia (first choice), Canada, or a foreign country, without needing a foreign language degree (I will be doing Spanish as an honors requirement but nothing more than 200 level classes).

So I guess what I'm asking is: Are there many job openings to get experience in the US?
Are there openings to eventually transfer to, specifically in the countries mentioned?
Approximate pay, benefits, expectations of being a teacher in current markets?

Any help would be appreciated as I'm a little caught up in all the tangles right now.
