Career Paths in Corporate Finance

Hi,

I was wondering what the typical career path is for someone who wants to work in corporate finance? By that, I mean what is the typical career progression, what are the different departments, etc.?

Furthermore, I am wondering what these types of employers look for and what is the best way to secure these kinds of positions? I hear that accounting is important for these positions and finance majors often underestimate that, but is taking an upper level managerial and financial accounting course be good enough, or is a major in accounting essential? Furthermore, would it be worth getting a masters in accounting and a CPA along with an MBA to advance?

I just have a lot of questions in general I guess, so if anyone has any info, that would be great.

thanks!

For corporate finance, it is mostly just financial accounting and financial statement analysis that are important for corp finance jobs.

I am not qualified enough to say if completing the major is worth it, and it probably depends a lot on where you want to end up/if it will cost you an extra semester.

FYI I am a finance and accounting double major trying to break into corp finance.
