Hi! I'm a high school senior interested in both science and creative writing. I'm starting to think about future careers. I know it's early, but I'd like to have an idea of what's out there. I want to have a career that allows me to pursue my interests in both science (probably biology) and writing. So far, I know about science journalism. Are there any other careers like that?

I know a person who writes for a school science journal while being a bio & english major. There are careers for writers of magazines such as popular science, popular mechanics, etc. It’s a bit tough to break into though.
But I’m also interested in others’ responses to this question.

If you’re a solid scientist who can clearly express ideas to non-scientists in writing, you will have no shortage of opportunities to write. You can also pursue your interests simultaneously but separately. I’m a PhD chemist with three children’s books published by Simon & Schuster. Most writers need a day job even after their books are published, and you could do worse than a career in science.

Thank you both for your responses.

@spdf: I had the same idea to pursue both of my interests separately but at the same time. I think that could work…The only thing is, science does not come as naturally to me as writing/English does. As a result, I think I might be spreading myself too thin. I guess we’ll just have to see if I can handle the work in a biology major. I hope I can because I feel that a science slant could help me in my writing.
