Hi, im a Freshman in High scool and im thinking about prospective careers and colleges related to those said fields....

Can anyone list some general careers in engineering, and also list salaries to those careers?...

Also, if i want to be a Biomedical engineer, do i also have to go to med school to have any hope of getting a job?...my uncle told me this and i dont really believe him.

Most people who do engineering undergrad but want to go to Med school do biomedical (a few do Chemical), but there’s easier ways into Med school if that’s what you’re aiming for.

Keep in mind, the 08-09 was smack dab in the middle of a recession.

I misread your question about Biomed. I thought you were asking if you could go to Med school with a Biomed degree. But as people below me have said, you do not need a med school degree to be a biomedical engineer.

You do not have to get anything beyond a BS to become a BME, and you don’t even really need a BME degree for that. However, for the more interesting BME jobs you can expect to need a MS or PhD. Med school is absolutely unnecessary and should only be considered if you want to be a doctor (although some schools do offer joint PhD/MD degree programs).

There are, literally, thousands upon thousands of engineering jobs. The salaries for each job vary wildly and depend on many things (who you’re working for, experience, education, location, etc.).

By MS, do u mean Masters in Science?
Also, i do NOT want to get a PhD…

One last question, does your salary increase as you work for a longer time at a certain place? I know this is a weird question, but is there like a % increase each year?

There is no answer to this question. Every situation will be different so there is no way of telling how much your salary will increase every year. Your salary will depend a lot on how well you perform and how you advance (manger, technical specialist, etc.). I can say that engineering will provide the opportunity to do very well in many different areas. As PurdueEE says, there are countless jobs that you can obtain as an engineer in thousands of industries. If you become very good at your specific area of engineering, you can do very well in terms of salary.
