ughh careless errors are ****ing me off, especially in math, i come out thinking i answered every question rite, and i miss them for stupid reasons... not b/c i dont kno the content, b/c of a careless error.. its killing my score. anyone got any advice

man that same thing happened to me, and it keeps happening. its **. i came out yesterday thinking that i got 1 wrong on the math, and now i looked on that thread aobut the SAt scores and i see that i made the *ing DUMBEST mistakes ever. i know the feeling. i KNEW ALL OF HTE MATERIAL its just that i do stupid *.

I would pracitce and take more practice tests. I know what you mean, that **** is easy as hell, but they word it weirdly. And staying awake through all that is hard too

Just take practice tests. And please don't make stupid mistakes into something their not. It's not something that "happens to everyone". If you seriously understood (and applied properly) the content, then you wouldn't make dumb mistakes. There are many people that get an 800 in math EVERY time. Why do you think that they don't make stupid mistakes? The more comfortable you are with a subject, the less stupid mistakes you will make. For me, math stupid mistakes just don't happen anymore. Consistently making dumb mistakes isn't just "something that happens", but it demonstrates a lack of understanding, applying, reasoning skills, or something else. They can be avoided.

I know this can easily be taken the wrong way (because you guys probably have high scores already, and I'm sure you know all the formulas and can do those right 95% of the time). My point is that there are those who don't make stupid mistakes, which eliminates the "it just happens" theory. Those who make them aren't just unlucky. It's not a cruel game or a coincidence. There's a reason.

stix... that's not quite true. It is easy to make one careless error or get that "one weird question" when there are so many questions and it's such a long morning. And with math, every "one little question" brings the score down quite a bit.

Eh... maybe but (and PLEASE don't take this the wrong way) it's been a real long time since I missed a math question (and I'm not some super genius). "Weird Questions" can be solved using reasoning skills 100% of the time. I'm not saying that I'm (or anyone is) perfect but that stupid mistakes just aren't a factor anymore. This proves that stupid mistakes (in the context we are refering to them now) aren't just natural human errors that everyone makes but that with a certain degree of "mastery" they can be avoided 99% of the time, even with "that wierd question".

as easy as a stupid mistake does sound, i have to agree with stix. I mean the SAT math was COMPLETELY weird for me when i first took it. After practice (alot of it anyways), every problem triggers my mind to think how they want me to think now. However, if you are talking about a careless mistake like bubbling in wrong or misreading something, then i agree, there is plenty of room for that.
