Careless mistakes and misreading on the SAT

I have a problem that I'm wondering if you guys also have? This especially burdens me on the math section because I know all the material at the 800 level, but some how cannot always recieve the 800 score on tests/practice tests. A lot of the times its not even the hard questions I get wrong. I remember on the May Test I got like a question 11 wrong for mindlessly thinking that (-x)^2 = -(x^2) (a mistake of which I had no idea of how I made). Its so frustrating. This also happens to me on writing. I get easy questions wrong because I didnt read or didnt throughly read the whole question. Its so effin frustrating. Critical reading has always been my worst section and I'm starting to think that my considerably poor reading skills carrying into the other 2 sections seperating me from an 800 in the math section and 750+ in writing section.

me too! except on math, i plug in all the answers to make sure they work at least twice so i'm able to get an 800. i discover out so many careless mistakes, though.

try plugging in all the answers once you're through with the section.
there should be ample time to go over it twice.

I used to make 2 or 3 careless mistakes per section, but cut them all down to less than 3 real mistakes per section on the actual test. My remedy? Practice, and split-second doublechecking for math. (You have to basically be paranoid of errors if you make them regularly, but not so paranoid that you can't finish on time).

the worst part is .. i know the answer but i somehow bubble it WRONG .. !! and because of time constraints, barely have time to check >.<

The same applies to me!
However, you guys have to know that this is SAT Math.
SAT Math does NOT test your mathematical skills, but logical reasoning skills using math as a frontend.

The same applies to Writing and Critical Reading. :)

It's hard to stop making stupid mistakes. Gettting enough sleep in the weeks before the test may help a little and also if you try to estimate answers before hand you can tell if you made a really dumb mistake. For instance if you estimate that the answer should be about 100 and you get an answer of 3 then you should prob double check your work.
